THIS WEEK IN BLUE JACKETS HISTORY

Oct. 23, 2007 – Rick Nash tallied 2-1-3 and Jiri Novotny added two goals to lead the Blue Jackets to a 7-4 win over Chicago at the United Center. In all, five Jackets registered multi-point games as Columbus set a then-franchise record for most goals scored on the road. The mark stood until Mar. 7, 2009 when the club recorded an 8-2 win at Detroit.

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Oct. 15 – CHICAGO 5, at COLUMBUS 2:
Patrick Sharp scored two goals on 13 shots to lead Chicago and spoil Columbus' home-opener. R.J. Umberger’s shorthanded goal cut the Blackhawks lead to 2-1 early in the second period before Sharp scored twice midway through the frame to end the comeback. Kristian Huselius added his third goal in as many games for the Jackets, who were outshot 40 to 32 in the game… Oct. 16 – COLUMBUS 3, at MINNESOTA 2: R.J. Umberger scored his second shorthanded goal in as many nights at 10:58 of the third period and Mathieu Garon made 21 saves in his first start of the season to lead Columbus to the win. The Jackets held 1-0 and 2-1 leads on goals by Derek Dorsett and Derek MacKenzie before Minnesota tied the game at 2-2 on a Cal Clutterbuck goal late in the second period. Chris Clark added two assists for the Blue Jackets, who held a 25 to 23 edge in shots.

TEAM NEWS & NOTES
Columbus has won its first two road games for the first time in club history… The Blue Jackets have played two of 18 sets of back-to-back games so far this season and have gone 2-2-0 in those games with both wins coming in the second game… Prior to this season, Columbus was 68-63-19 in the first game of back-to-backs and 47-82-21 in the second… The Jackets have scored two shorthanded goals in four games this season after tallying six in 82 games a year ago… Last Friday's 5-2 loss vs. Chicago dropped Columbus' record to 5-3-2 mark in home openers and snapped three-game winning and four-game regulation unbeaten (3-0-1) streaks… The Jackets are 36-55-10 all-time in October, but have gone 19-16-2 in the month since 2007.

UMBERGER IS MR. CONSISTENT FOR JACKETS
LW R.J. Umberger has tallied 3-1-4 in four games this season, including an NHL-leading two shorthanded goals. His shorthanded tally vs. Chicago on Oct. 15 was the 100th goal of his NHL career (101-120-221 in 396 career games) and his shorthanded goal the following night at Minnesota was the game-winner. He is just the second player in club history to score shorthanded goals in consecutive games – Rick Nash (January 2009 and October 2009). Currently tied for the club lead in goals and points, he has also been even or plus in all four games and leads the club in plus/minus at +4… Umberger has played in 171 consecutive games dating back to Apr. 2, 2008 vs. Pittsburgh (with Philadelphia), including all 168 with the Blue Jackets, which is the longest active streak on the club and third-longest in franchise history (Jason Chimera, 243 (2005-08); David Vyborny, 194 (2002-05).

HUSELIUS FINALLY HELD OFF SCORESHEET
LW Kristian Huselius had his season-opening three-game goal-scoring streak snapped at Minnesota on Oct. 16. After scoring in the third period vs. Chicago on Oct. 15, he became the first player in franchise history to score goals in the first three games of a season. Dating back to last season, he has tallied 8-12-20 with seven multi-point games in his last 18 outings. He is tied for the club lead in goals (three) and points (four), has scored both the club's power play goals and is second with 12 shots on goal in four games.

PLAYER NOTES
LW Chris Clark registered his first multi-point game as a Blue Jacket with 0-2-2 at Minnesota on Oct. 16 and in the process recorded the 200 and 201st points of his NHL career (98-103-201, 556 games)… RW Derek Dorsett has tallied points in back-to-back games, including his first goal of the season at Minnesota on Oct. 16… RW Rick Nash is five assists shy of 200 in his NHL career (228-195-423, 521 games)… C Derek MacKenzie scored his first goal of the season at Minnesota on Oct. 16.

METHOT TO READ TO KIDS AT NEW ALBANY LIBRARY ON MONDAY
D Marc Methot will be reading books for kids at the New Albany branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library (200 Market St.) on Monday, Oct. 18 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. He will be joined by Stinger at the event, which is part of the Blue Jackets Book Jackets program, which encourages children in grades K-8 to spend more time reading.

HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER NIGHT PRESENTED BY OhioHEALTH IS FRIDAY
The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation, in partnership with OhioHealth and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9, recognize the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer initiative on our Annual Hats For Heroes Night on Friday, October 22 vs. the Calgary Flames. Local pediatric cancer patients, survivors and their families join the Blue Jackets as the club raises awareness about the fight against pediatric cancer. Numerous "heroes" are involved in various game elements, including a ceremonial puck drop, stick boys, stick girls and Zamboni rides. Fans can also purchase the new Hats For Heroes hats throughout the night.
