Oct. 12, 2000 –
Kevyn Adams scored two goals, including the game-winner at 4:13 of the 2nd period, as the Jackets beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 at the Pengrowth Saddledome to earn the first win in franchise history. Rostislav Klesla scored the other Columbus goal.

Oct. 8 –
San Jose 3, Columbus 2 at Stockholm, Sweden: Logan Couture scored a power play goal midway through the third period to lift the Sharks to a 3-2 win in the season-opener for both clubs. San Jose jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Jackets scored twice in 15 seconds to the game 2-2 on goals by Kristian Huselius (16:55) and R.J. Umberger (17:10)… Oct. 9 Columbus 3, San Jose 2 (OT) at Stockholm, Sweden: Steve Mason made 33 saves and Ethan Moreau scored his first goal as a Blue Jacket 1:56 into overtime to lift the Jackets to the win and a split in the two-game set with the Sharks at Ericsson Globe Arena. San Jose took a 1-0 lead 2:02 into the game on a goal by Devin Setoguchi before Columbus’ Rick Nash countered just 1:11 later. Kristian Huselius put the Jackets in front 2-1 at 5:07 of the third period before Joe Thornton scored a power play goal to tie the game at 2-2. Columbus was 1-of-4 on the power play, while San Jose was 2-of-8. Antero Niittymaki made 22 saves for the Sharks.

TEAM NEWS & NOTES
The Blue Jackets are now 4-4-2 in their 10 season-openers, including a 3-1-1 mark in their last five… They hold a 26 to 25 edge in goals in those games with eight decided by one goal or less… Columbus outscored San Jose 3 to 1 at even-strength in the two games played in Stockholm… The Jackets went 2-of-11 on the power play vs. San Jose (18.2 pct.) and killed off 10-of-14 Sharks power plays (71.4 pct.)… The Jackets are 35-54-10 all-time in October, but have gone 18-15-2 in the month since 2007.

ARNIEL RECORDS FIRST NHL WIN
Scott Arniel recorded his first win as an NHL head coach in his second game with Saturday’s 3-2 OT decision over the Sharks. On Friday, he became the first Blue Jackets coach to make his debut with the team on opening night since Dave King on Oct. 7, 2000. The club’s other head coaches all made their debuts behind the bench during the season – Doug MacLean (at Minnesota on Jan. 8, 2003), Gerard Gallant (at Tampa Bay on Jan. 2, 2004) and Ken Hitchcock (at Philadelphia on Nov. 24, 2006).

CBJ SWEDES EXCEL ON "HOME ICE"
Columbus' three Swedish players – LW Kristian Huselius, C Samuel Pahlsson and D Anton Stralman – each had an impact on the ice at Ericsson Globe Arena last weekend, combining for 2-4-6 vs. the Sharks in the first NHL games any of the three have played in their homeland. Huselius led the club with 2-1-3, including 1-1-2 on Saturday; while Stralman collected an assist in each game and Pahlsson picked up 0-1-1 and won 10-of-16 face-offs (62.5 pct.) on Friday.

NEWLY FORMED LINE OF UMBERGER-PAHLSSON-MOREAU COMES UP BIG
The newly formed Ethan Moreau-Samuel Pahlsson- R.J Umberger line took a bite out of the Sharks over the weekend as the trio combined for 2-2-4 and with a +5 plus/minus rating. In his first two games as a Blue Jacket, Moreau tallied 1-1-2 and was +2 and scored the overtime game-winner on Saturday night. Umberger tallied 1-0-1 and was +1 in two games and his goal on Friday gives him 3-2-5 in his last four season debuts. Pahlsson collected 0-1-1 and was +2 in two-games.

PLAYER NOTES
After not registering an assist in his first 22 NHL games, LW Nikita Filatov set up goals in each of the first two games this season and was one of four Jackets with points in both games vs. the Sharks (Huselius, Moreau, Stralman)… LW Chris Clark is one point shy of 200 and two goals shy of 100 in his NHL career (98-101-199, 554 games)… D Mike Commodore is two points shy of 100 in his NHL career 21-77-98, 436 games)… LW/RW Rick Nash is five assists shy of 200 in his NHL career (228-195-423, 519 games)… LW R.J. Umberger is one goal shy of 100 in his NHL career (99-119-218, 394 games).

OPENING NIGHT IS FRIDAY, OCT. 15 VS. DEFENDING CHAMPION BLACKHAWKS
The Blue Jackets host the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks on Friday, October 15 in the club's 10th home opener. The game is the first "Alumni Night" of the club's 10th Anniversary Season courtesy of Tim Hortons and features an appearance by former Jacket Bruce Gardiner, who scored the first goal in team history on Oct. 7, 2000 vs. Chicago. In addition, all fans in attendance will receive a 10th season Opening Night T-shirt, as well as a 2010-11 schedule poster. KICK OFF THE SEASON WITH OPENING NIGHT PLAZA PARTY PRESENTED BY NATIONWIDE
Fans are invited to the Opening Night Plaza Party presented by Nationwide Insurance on Friday before the Jackets-Blackhawks game. The party on the Front St. plaza will run from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and game tickets are not required to attend. Fans can enjoy beer, soft drinks, food, music, video highlights and prize giveaways as well as a face painting station for kids and appearances by Stinger and the Pepsi Power Patrol. Also adding to the atmosphere on the plaza will be a pair of live radio and television broadcasts starting with Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan's Mike Ricordati and Scott Torgerson, hosts of "Common Man and The Torg," doing their full show live from the plaza from 3-6 p.m. FOX Sports Ohio's Ray Crawford and Bill Davidge will host an expanded edition of the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show from their outside broadcast position starting at 6 p.m.

QFM96 Radio's Wags & Elliot will be hosting their annual Blue Jackets Breakfast Club on Thursday at the R Bar, located in the Arena District, beginning at 6 a.m. Stop by for breakfast, prize giveaways and appearances by Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson, Head Coach Scott Arniel and players R.J. Umberger, Steve Mason and Samuel Pahlsson.

HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER NIGHT PRESENTED BY OhioHEALTH IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22
The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation, in partnership with OhioHealth and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9, recognize the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer initiative on our Annual Hats For Heroes Night on Friday, October 22 vs. the Calgary Flames. Local pediatric cancer patients, survivors and their families join the Blue Jackets as the club raises awareness about the fight against pediatric cancer. Numerous "heroes" are involved in various game elements, including a ceremonial puck drop, stick boys, stick girls and Zamboni rides. Fans can also purchase the new Hats For Heroes hats throughout the night.

BLUE JACKETS ON FOX SPORTS OHIO – Blue Jackets Slap Shots debuts Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Blue Jackets hockey returns to FOX Sports Ohio in 2010-11 with 75 live telecasts, including 67 in high definition. Coverage begins on Friday, October 15 vs. the Chicago Blackhawks.
