Mar. 9, 2001 – Deron Quint became the first defensemen in Blue Jackets history to register a hat trick when he scored three goals against Florida goaltender Trevor Kidd to lead Columbus to a 7-6 overtime win over the Panthers at the National Car Rental Center. The only other CBJ defenseman to collect a hat trick is Bryan Berard (Jan. 9, 2006 at Phoenix).

Mar. 1 – at Vancouver 2, COLUMBUS 1 (SO): Roberto Luongo (20 saves; 6-of-8 SO) outdueled Steve Mason (25 saves; 5-of-8 SO) and Raffi Torres scored the winning goal in the eighth round of the shootout to lead the Western Conference-leading Canucks. Vancouver led 1-0 after the first period on a Mason Raymond goal before the Jackets tied the game at 1-1 on a second period tally by Scottie Upshall… Mar. 3 – at Edmonton 4, COLUMBUS 2: Leading 2-0 after one period, Edmonton pushed the lead to 3-0 just 14 seconds into the second on a goal by Jordan Eberle before holding off a Columbus comeback. Jan Hejda’s goal cut the lead to 3-1 late in the second period and Scottie Upshall scored at 15:38 of the third before the Oilers sealed the game with an empty net goal at the 19:48 mark. Devan Dubnyk made 26 saves for the Oilers, while Mathieu Garon stopped all 23 shots he faced in relief of Steve Mason… Mar. 4 – at Calgary 4, COLUMBUS 3: The Flames scored a pair of power play goals just 1:21 apart midway through the second period to break a 2-2 tie en route to the win. Craig Rivet scored in his CBJ debut to give the club an early 1-0 lead before goals by Olli Jokinen and Jarome Iginla put the Flames ahead 2-1. Antoine Vermette’s goal early in the second tied the game and Jan Hejda scored in the third to get the Jackets within 4-3. Miikka Kiprusoff made 37 saves – including a pair of penalty shot attempts by Matt Calvert and Vermette – to earn the win in net. Steve Mason made 24 saves for the Jackets.

Columbus has gone 4-1-1 in its last six games at Nationwide Arena. During that span, the club has outscored its opponents 21 (3.50) to 14 (2.33) and has a 198 (33.0) to 167 (27.8) advantage in shots on goal. The club has also dominated special teams play, converting 7-of-25 power play chances (28.0 pct.) and successfully killing off all 19 opponent power play opportunities. The Jackets have killed off 21-straight opponent power plays at home since allowing a goal by Chicago's Duncan Keith on Feb. 1.

TRIO OF NEWCOMERS MAKE IMMEDIATE IMPACT
The newest Blue Jackets – RW Scottie Upshall, D Sami Lepisto and D Craig Rivet – wasted little time making an impact on the club. Upshall scored a goal in each of his first two games – at Vancouver on Mar. 1 and at Edmonton on Mar. 3 – and added four penalty minutes and 10 shots on goal, while averaging 18:35 TOI in his first three games. Lepisto, acquired with Upshall from Phoenix for Rostislav Klesla on Feb. 28, collected two penalty minutes, had an "even" plus/minus rating and logged 18:58 TOI in three games. Rivet, who was claimed off waivers from Buffalo on Feb. 26, made his CBJ debut at Calgary on Mar. 4 and scored a goal, was +1 and logged 14:37 TOI.
C Antoine Vermette scored his 50th goal as a Blue Jacket and added an assist at Calgary on Mar. 4 to give him 50-65-115 in 162 games since the joining the club in 2009 (.710 points per game)… RW Jakub Voracek collected 0-2-2 at Calgary on Mar. 4 to record his 10th multi-point game of the season and raise his totals to 3-7-10 in the last 12 games… D Jan Hejda has scored goals in back-to-back games and has 3-12-15 in his last 40 games after being held to 1-0-1 in his first 21 of the season… D Kris Russell has picked up 1-5-6 in his last six games… C Samuel Pahlsson played in his 700th career NHL game at Calgary on Mar. 4… C Derek MacKenzie has notched 2-8-10 in his last 17 games after being held without a point in the previous 14 outings.

SIXTH ALUMNI NIGHT FEATURING MARC DENIS SET FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 11
The Blue Jackets' sixth Alumni Night of their 10th Season, presented by FOX Sports Ohio, is scheduled for Friday, Mar. 11 when the team hosts the Los Angeles Kings and welcomes back Marc Denis. Acquired from Colorado in 2000, Denis went 84-146-37 with a 3.01 GAA, .905 SV% and 12 shutouts in 266 games with Columbus from 2000-06. The franchise’s all-time leader among goaltenders in games and minutes played, wins and saves, Denis set a then-NHL record for minutes played when he logged 4,511 in 2002-03. His best season was 2003-04 when he went 21-36-12 with a 2.56 GAA, .918 SV% and five shutouts in 66 games. Denis will drop the ceremonial first puck prior to the game and sign autographs for fans after the game’s conclusion on the Nationwide Arena concourse. In addition, all fans in attendance will receive a Rick Nash Third-Jersey bobblehead courtesy of FOX Sports Ohio.

The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation announced that the following central Ohio non-profit organizations have been selected as the 10 finalists for the Foundation's "10th Season $10,000 Assist" initiative: Boys and Girls Club, Charity Newsies, Citizens for Humane Action, Flashes of Hope, For Hope, Local Matters, Nellie's Catwalk for Kids, Ronald McDonald House, Star House and YWCA. The winning organization will be awarded a $10,000 check at the Blue Jackets-New Jersey Devils game on Sunday, Mar. 20.
