WEEK IN REVIEW: Mar. 7 – Chicago 3, at Blue Jackets 1: Columbus' Marc Denis and Chicago's Craig Anderson each stood tall in net as Denis stopped 41-of-43 shots but Anderson made 27 saves to earn the win. Columbus took a 1-0 lead in the second period on a goal by Manny Malhotra before Chicago's Radim Vrbata tied the game at 1-1 heading into the third. Patrick Sharp netted the game-winner 6:01 into the final period and Matthew Barnaby added an empty net goal at 18:42 to round out the scoring. Chicago out-shot Columbus 44 to 28 and each team was 0-for-4 on the power play… Mar. 9 – at Blue Jackets 5, Phoenix 4: Rick Nash tallied a goal and an assist to lead 11 different Blue Jackets who registered points in the win. Columbus jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Nash and Jan Hrdina. Nikolai Zherdev's goal 0:17 into the second made it 3-0 before the Coyotes cut the lead to 3-2 on goals by former Jacket Geoff Sanderson and Derek Morris heading into the third period. Former Coyotes Mike Rupp and Jason Chimera extended the Blue Jackets lead to 5-2 before Columbus held off a furious Phoenix rally. Pascal Leclaire made 29 saves to earn the win in net, while Curtis Joseph stopped 25 in a losing effort… Mar. 11 – at Blue Jackets 4, Edmonton 3 (OT): Nikolai Zherdev tallied 1-2-3, scoring the tying goal and assisting on Rostislav Klesla's game-winner at 4:06 of overtime, to lead Columbus to the come-from-behind win. The Oilers jumped out to a 2-0 lead and out-shot the Blue Jackets 15 to 4 in the first period, before Columbus rallied in the second period by outscoring Edmonton 2-1 and out-shooting the visitors 17 to 5. Goals by Trevor Letowski and Sergei Fedorov offset a tally by Michael Peca to pull the Jackets within 3-2 heading into the third and setting the stage for Zherdev's equalizer at the 9:43 mark. Marc Denis made 24 saves to earn the win in net, while newly acquired Dwayne Roloson made 27 saves for the Oilers.
PLAYER NOTES: RW Nikolai Zherdev has scored nine goals in his last 12 games and has tallied 11-6-17 in his last 17 contests.
