D Radek Martinek (upper body, Oct. 22 at Detroit) is out indefinitely. LW Kristian Huselius (lower body, Dec. 6 at Montreal) is listed as week-to-week. D James Wisniewski (ankle, Dec. 29 at Dallas) is out six weeks. C Mark Letestu (hand, Jan. 5 at San Jose) is week-to-week. C Ryan Johansen (Jan. 7 at Los Angeles) is day-to-day. Jan. 5 – at San Jose 2, BLUE JACKETS 1:
The Blue Jackets struck early at 2:13 in the first with Vinny Prospal’s eighth goal of the season but were soon answered with a Ryan Clowe power play goal at 13:01. Joe Thornton made it 2-1 for the Sharks at 4:44 of the second, which proved to be the game-winning goal. Curtis Sanford stopped 37-of-39 shots, while the Jackets were outshot 39-24. Jan. 7 – BLUE JACKETS 1, at Los Angeles 0: Curtis Sanford stopped all 31 shots he faced to log his first shutout since Dec. 8, 2008 to lead the Blue Jackets to the win. Grant Clitsome scored the lone goal at 11:25 of the second period. The Jackets killed all eight of the Kings’ power play attempts. Jan. 8 – at Anaheim 7, BLUE JACKETS 4: Anaheim struck four times in the first period, while Columbus rallied to within two twice but could not pull any closer. Corey Perry had a hat trick and Teemu Selanne scored two goals to lead the Ducks. Rick Nash had two goals for the Jackets, while Vinny Prospal had a goal and an assist on the night.

Richards Named Interim Head Coach for Remainder of 2011-12 Season: The Blue Jackets relieved Head Coach Scott Arniel of his duties behind the bench and named Assistant Coach Todd Richards as the club’s interim head coach for the remainder of the 2011-12 season, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced Monday. Richards, who joined the club as an assistant coach on June 20, 2011, will make his debut behind the Blue Jackets bench on Tuesday when the club visits the Chicago Blackhawks.

Team Notes: The Blue Jackets are in the midst of playing eight of their 12 games in January on the road… Following Tuesday’s game at Chicago, the club returns home for a four-game homestand that starts with back-to-back home games Friday and Saturday… Columbus went 1-for-3 on the power play Jan. 8 at Anaheim, snapping a six-game, 0-for-15 skid… Despite Sunday’s loss at Los Angeles, the Jackets have gone 2-2-0 on the road the last four games after going 1-4-0 the previous five road games.

LW Rick Nash has multi-goal games in two of the past five games after scoring his team leading 13th and 14th goals of the season Sunday at Los Angeles. He has scored 10 goals the last 22 games after being held to four goals the first 19 games of the season… C Derick Brassard snapped a four-game goalless skid with his fifth of the season against the Kings on Sunday. He has tallied 3-5-8 the last 13 games after being held to 0-1-1 the previous 12 games… D Grant Clitsome has points in back-to-back games after notching an assist on Brassard’s goal. He had been held pointless the previous 22 games. The assist was his first since Nov. 17 at Boston, a span of 20 games… LW Vinny Prospal has goals in two of the last three games, including his ninth of the season against Los Angeles on Sunday, after going the previous 11 games without a goal. In his last 17 games, he has recorded 2-9-11, while dating back to last season, he has 17-36-53 his last 70 games.

This year’s Black Tie Blue Jackets Style Show, presented by Kelly BMW, AEP and Capital Style, will be held at Nationwide Arena on Thursday, Feb. 16 to benefit the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation and the fight against pediatric cancer. The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation announces the release of the 2012 Pucks and Paws Calendar presented by Petland. The calendar features Blue Jackets players alongside assistance dogs and puppies in training from Canine Companions for Independence®, the nation’s largest non-profit provider of trained assistance dogs to children, adults and veterans with physical disabilities.
