Dec. 26 – at Chicago 4, BLUE JACKETS 1: The Blackhawks used a three-goal second period, including a pair of goals by Viktor Stalberg, to earn the win despite being outshot 38 to 22. Corey Crawford made 37 saves for Chicago, which went 1-of-3 on the power play and held the Jackets scoreless on two man-advantage opportunities. James Wisniewski scored the lone goal for Columbus… Dec. 27 – at Calgary 2, BLUE JACKETS 1 (SO): Jarome Iginla scored the game-tying goal on the power play at 3:06 of the third period and netted the lone marker in the shootout to lift the Flames to their first win in three attempts against Columbus this season. Derick Brassard scored for the Blue Jackets, who got 25 saves from Steve Mason. Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside 27 shots for the Flames, which snapped the Jackets’ shootout winning streak at three… Dec. 29 – BLUE JACKETS 4, at Dallas 1: Rick Nash scored a pair of goals and Steve Mason made a season-high 36 saves as the Jackets snapped a six-game winless streak (0-5-1). After Nash opened the scoring, at 3:50 of the first period, Dallas tied the game at 1-1 on Vernon Fiddler’s goal at the 8:57 mark. Antoine Vermette scored what would be the game-winner at 2:10 of the second period before Nash and Fedor Tyutin (empty net) lit the lamp in the third for Columbus. After being outshot 19 to 9 in the first period, the Jackets held a 20 to 18 edge over the final two periods… Dec. 31 – Washington 4, at BLUE JACKETS 2: The Capitals scored four goals in the third period, including three in a span of 2:53 early in the period, to erase a 2-0 Columbus lead and earn the win. Alex Ovechkin scored twice, Dennis Wideman added 1-1-2 and Tomas Vokoun made 35 saves to lead the Capitals. John Moore and Samuel Pahlsson scored second period goals for the Blue Jackets who outshot Washington 37 to 26 in the game. Steve Mason made 22 saves in net for Columbus.

The Blue Jackets will play eight of their 12 games in January on the road… Columbus has gone 9-8-3 when scoring the game’s first goal compared to a 1-15-2 mark when falling behind 1-0… Since beginning the season 0-of-20 on the power play in its first four games, Columbus has converted 23-of-136 with the man advantage (16.9 pct.)… The Blue Jackets have allowed 11 goals in their last five home games (2.20) – plus one shootout goal – but have been held to eight goals scored (1.60)… Columbus has gone 4-5-2 in its last 11 road games after a 0-7-0 start.
