Dec. 13 – at BLUE JACKETS 2, Vancouver 1 (SO): Steve Mason made 30 saves and Rick Nash scored the winner in the shootout as the Blue Jackets earned their first win in their last 10 games vs. the Canucks. Jeff Carter’s power play goal in the first period gave Columbus a 1-0 lead before Maxim Lapierre tied the game midway through the third period. The Jackets converted 1-of-3 on the power play while holding NHL’s top unit scoreless on four chances with the man advantage… Dec. 15 – Los Angeles 2, at BLUE JACKETS 1: Despite being outshot 26 to 14 through two periods, Columbus led 1-0 thanks to a Jeff Carter goal and the goaltending of Curtis Sanford. The Kings scored twice in a span of 3:39 early in the third – Davis Drewiske at 4:33 and Dustin Brown at 8:12 – and held on for the win. Sanford made a career-high 39 saves in net for the Jackets, while Jonathan Quick made 25 saves for LA… Dec. 17 – Tampa Bay 3, at BLUE JACKETS 2: The Blue Jackets twice cut two-goal deficits to one but couldn’t get the equalizer and suffered their third one-goal loss of a five-game homestand. Blair Jones and Eric Brewer gave the Lightning a 2-0 lead after one before the Jackets’ R.J. Umberger cut the lead to 2-1 at 5:43 of the second period. Steven Stamkos’ 20th goal of the season at the 10:05 mark pushed the Tampa Bay lead to 3-1 but Rick Nash answered just over two minutes later to make the score 3-2. Neither team managed a goal in the third as Mathieu Garon (26 saves) outdueled Steve Mason (25 saves) to earn the win in net… Dec. 18 – at St. Louis 6, BLUE JACKETS 4: The Blues used a four-goal third period and sealed the win with a Patrik Berglund empty net goal to hand the Jackets their third-straight loss. St. Louis led 2-1 after one period before the Jackets used goals by Derek Dorsett and Mark Letestu to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. Alex Steen’s goal 58 seconds into the third tied the game and goals by Jason Arnott and Alex Pietrangelo pushed the Blues advantage to 5-3 before Derick Brassard scored at 15:51 of the third to bring Columbus within one. Jaroslav Halak made 28 saves in net for St. Louis, while Steve Mason stopped 28-of-33 shots for the Jackets.

Last Sunday’s game at St. Louis began a stretch that has the Blue Jackets playing eight of their next 10 games on the road… Columbus has gone 3-3-2 in eight road games since Nov. 17… Twenty-four different players have scored a goal for the Blue Jackets this season, which is the most in the NHL in 2011-12 (Buffalo – 22)… Columbus has killed off 30-of-36 opponent power plays (83.3 pct.) over the past 13 games and 10-of-10 in the last four outings… After losing their first three shootout games this season, the Blue Jackets have won their last three with LW Rick Nash scoring the winning goal in each…. CLITSOME TO READ TO KIDS AT DUBLIN LIBRARY ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 20TH
D Grant Clitsome will be reading to kids at the Dublin branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, located at 75 N. High St., on Tuesday, December 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The appearance, which will include a visit by CBJ mascot Stinger, is part of the Columbus Blue Jackets Book Jackets Program Powered by AEP, which encourages students in grades K-8 to spend more of their free time reading. The program helps students become All-Star readers with updated goals. Students keep "score" of minutes read throughout a four-week period and are rewarded with Blue Jackets prizes upon completion.
