Hitchcock Named Fourth Head Coach in Blue Jackets History – The Blue Jackets named Ken Hitchcock head coach on Nov. 23. Hitchcock owns a 409-250-100 record in 759 career NHL games with the Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers and Blue Jackets, who went 1-1-0 in his first two games behind the bench. In eight full seasons, he led the Stars to five Central Division titles and the Flyers to one Atlantic Division title and two second place finishes. He also owns a 66-51 career record in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including a 16-7 mark in 1999 when he led the Stars to the Stanley Cup championship.

Columbus has out-shot its opponents 74 (37.0) to 44 (22.0) in two games under Ken Hitchcock after being out-shot 581 (29.1) to 546 (27.3) in 20 games prior to his arrival.

Columbus embarks on its longest road trip of the season this week. The team will leave for Vancouver on Nov. 26 and play the Canucks (Nov. 28), Flames (Dec. 1), Oilers (Dec. 2) and Avalanche (Dec. 5) before returning to Columbus following the game against Colorado. The club then plays at St. Louis (Dec. 9) before returning to host Ottawa on Dec. 10.

C Sergei Fedorov has tallied 5-7-12 in his last 13 games and is two goals shy of 450 in his NHL career (448-627-1,075 in 1,071 games). He registered a season-high 2-2-4 and was +4 in a 5-3 win over Minnesota on Nov. 25. In that game he also tied a franchise record for shots on goal in a game with 10, one day after he fired off nine at Philadelphia.

LW Fredrik Modin, who has 3-2-5 in his last seven games, tied the franchise record for shots on goal in a game with 10 at Philadelphia on Nov. 24.

G Fredrik Norrena made 19 saves to beat the Minnesota Wild, 5-3, on Nov. 25 and record his first career NHL win.

D Anders Eriksson leads the club in plus/minus at +4 and was even or better in seven games during Columbus’ eight-game losing streak (0-7-1 from Nov. 10-24). He was -1 vs. Edmonton on Nov. 10 and +3 over the next seven games.

After being held without a goal in his first 15 games, LW Jason Chimera has scored three goals in his last seven.

D Rostislav Klesla has 3-3-6 in his last 10 games after being held without a point in his first 10 games of the season.

D Bryan Berard is two points shy of 300 in his NHL career (71-227-298 in 554 games).

RW Anson Carter, who registered his first multi-point game with the Blue Jackets with 1-2-3 vs. Minnesota on Nov. 25, recorded his 400th career NHL point in the 5-3 win against the Wild. He is six goals shy of 200 in his NHL career (194-206-400 in 632 games).

D Adam Foote recorded his 200th career assist on Carter’s goal vs. Minnesota on Nov. 25 (61-200-261 in 883 games).

RW Nikolai Zherdev tallied 1-1-2 vs. Minnesota on Nov. 25 to record his 100th NHL point (46-54-100 in 150 games)

Hockey Holidays from the Blue Jackets CD available this week: Nine Blue Jackets players recorded “Hockey Holidays from the Blue Jackets,” a holiday CD that will be available beginning Nov. 22. The CDs will be sold for $10 with proceeds benefiting the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center at Columbus Children’s Hospital and the Riverside Cancer Service’s KidShare program. The recording was organized by Blue Jackets forward Anson Carter and included fellow players – Jason Chimera, Pascal Leclaire, Dan Fritsche, Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, Manny Malhotra, Fredrik Modin, Aaron Johnson and Jody Shelley.
