Mike Fisher scored his first of two goals at 8:07 of the first before Nash knotted the game at 1-1 in the second. Fisher’s second came on the power play at 19:31 of the second period to make it 2-1 heading to the third. Matt Halischuk lit the lamp at 7:37 of the third, before Patric Hornqvist’s power play goal at 16:51 put the game away. Jan. 24 – at Tampa Bay 4, BLUE JACKETS 2: Mike Angelidis opened the scoring at 13:20 of the first, but was matched by Brett Lebda’s first goal as a Blue Jacket at the 15:07 mark. Vincent Lecavalier (8:19, power play) and Martin St. Louis (16:56) scored second period goals to push the Lightning lead to 3-1. Ryan Johansen cut the lead to 3-2 at 5:40 of the third, but Nate Thompson answered at 11:29 to ensure Tampa the win.
BLUE JACKETS, CITY OF COLUMUS TO HOST 2013 ALL-STAR CELEBRATION
The Columbus Blue Jackets and the city of Columbus have been selected to host the 2013 National Hockey League All-Star Celebration, the club and League announced this past Saturday. The official announcement was made by NHL Commissioner Gary B. Bettman during a press conference at this year’s Celebration in Ottawa. The League’s mid-season showcase will take place Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27 and will include the Molson Canadian NHL SuperSkills® and the 60th NHL All-Star Game.
The Blue Jackets are in the midst of playing six-straight games on the road. The trip started prior to the All-Star Break (3-2 SOL at Detroit on Jan. 21, 4-1 L at Nashville Jan. 23 and 4-2 L at Tampa Bay Jan. 24) and continues with games this week at San Jose (Tuesday), Los Angeles (Wednesday) and Anaheim (Friday)… Following the road trip, Columbus will play five of six and eight of 11 games at home during the month of February… The Blue Jackets rank 12th in the NHL in shots per game (30.4) and shots against per game (29.4)… Columbus is sixth in the NHL in face-off percentage at 51.8 percent.
LEBDA 17TH PLAYER TO MAKE BLUE JACKETS DEBUT; SCORES FIRST GOAL WITH CLUB
D Brett Lebda made his Blue Jackets debut Jan. 23 at Nashville. He became the 17th player to make his Blue Jackets debut this season (Atkinson, Bass, Byers, Carter, Gillies, Giroux, Johansen, Letestu, Martinek, Nikitin, Prospal, Russell, Sanford, Savard, Wisniewski, York). The next night in Tampa Bay he scored his first goal with the club, the 27th different player to score a goal for Columbus this season. It was Lebda’s first goal since Feb. 24, 2011 at Montreal as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, a span of 14 games. He was signed to a one-year contract Jan. 19.
JOHANSEN RETURNS FROM TRIP TO ALL-STAR FESTIVITIES
C Ryan Johansen was one of 12 rookies selected last week to participate at the 2012 NHL All-Star Weekend in Ottawa this past weekend. Prior to the weekend, he scored his ninth goal of the season Jan. 24 at Tampa Bay. His nine goals and 17 points rank 10th among NHL rookies. He has goals in two of the last four games after being held goalless the previous nine games. He has 3-3-6 the last 13 games after being held pointless the previous 10 games.
VERMETTE CONTINUES TO BE STRONG IN FACE-OFF CIRCLE
C Antoine Vermette has taken over the Blue Jackets longest active consecutive games played streak, having played in 231-straight entering tonight’s contest. His streak, which is the third-longest in team history, began Mar. 7, 2009 after being acquired by the Blue Jackets on Mar. 4, 2009. He has points in six of the last eight games after picking up an assist Jan. 23 at Nashville. He has 1-5-6 during that stretch after being held to 1-1-2 the previous 13 games. He has won 37 of his last 51 face-offs (72.5 percent) the last three games and ranks seventh in the NHL in face-off win percentage (57.5 percent).
LW R.J. Umberger registered his first multi-point game in nine games with a pair of assists Jan. 24 at Tampa Bay. He has collected 2-8-10 the last 13 games after being held to 2-1-3 the previous nine games. He returned to the lineup Jan. 23 at Nashville after missing the previous five games due to an upper body injury suffered Jan. 8 at Anaheim.
