ANAHEIM DUCKS (19-14-4, 42 pts./2nd Pacific Division): Head Coach Randy Carlyle… Since opening the season 1-5-0, the Ducks have posted an 18-9-3 record… Ducks have gone 10-7-2 at home and 9-7-2 on the road and are 5-4-1 in their last 10 overall… C Ryan Getzlaf leads the club with 14-28-42 in 36 games… RW Corey Perry (9-23-32, 37 games) and RW Teemu Selanne (14-13-27, 33 games) are also players to watch… G Jean-Sebastien Giguere is 11-8-3 with a 2.96 GAA, .910 SV% and two shutouts in 24 games… The Blue Jackets are 13-13-4 in the all-time series, including 5-7-3 on the road… Anaheim has won seven of the last nine meetings, including one shootout and one overtime decision… The Ducks earned a 3-2 win at Nationwide Arena on Oct. 27 and a 5-3 win at Honda Center on Dec. 7.

COLORADO AVALANCHE (18-16-1, 37 pts./3rd-T Northwest Division): Head Coach Tony Granato… The Avs have posted a 7-4-1 record in December and have won two in a row… Colorado is 8-1 in games decided in overtime or the shootout, which ranks third in the NHL… RW Milan Hejduk has 13-14-27 in 35 games, while LW Ryan Smyth has 12-13-25 in 35 games… Leading scorer Paul Stastny (10-21-31, 34 games) is injured… G Peter Budaj is 12-15-1 with a 2.79 GAA and .901 SV% and one shutout in 29 games… The Blue Jackets are 5-22-2 all-time vs. the Avalanche, including 2-12-1 on the road… The Jackets and Avalanche split the season series last year as the home team won all four games… Jackets won 4-2 at Pepsi Center on Oct. 30.

ST. LOUIS BLUES (14-19-3, 31 pts./5th Central Division): Head Coach Andy Murray… St. Louis is 9-8-2 at home and 5-11-1 on the road… The Blues are 2-8-0 in their last 10 games, but one of those wins was 3-2 over NHL-leading San Jose on Dec. 27… Blues are led by RW Brad Boyes (17-15-32 and 10 PPG, 36 games), C Keith Tkachuk (13-13-26, 36 games) and C Patrik Berglund (12-13-25, 31 games)… G Manny Legace is 10-7-1 with a 3.25 GAA and .889 SV% in 20 games… The Blue Jackets are 17-19-9 all-time vs. St. Louis, including 6-13-4 on the road… Columbus has gone 12-8-4 vs. the Blues since the start of the 2005-06 season… This is the first meeting of the season between the Central Division foes.

LW Raffi Torres (arthroscopic knee surgery; Injured Reserve, Dec. 2) is expected to miss two to four weeks… D Ole-Kristian Tollefsen (arthroscopic knee surgery – Injured Reserve, Dec. 17) is expected to miss four to six weeks… LW Jason Chimera (Injured Reserve, Dec. 18) is expected to miss at least one week… C Derick Brassard (dislocated shoulder, Dec. 18) will miss the rest of the season… Man Games Lost to Injury: 92.

 


PLAYER NOTES
MASON MAKING CASE FOR CALDER, ALL-STAR CONSIDERATION: Rookie G Steve Mason continues to play his way into any discussion of Calder Trophy candidates and All-Star Game consideration. He is 10-7-1 with a 1.87 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and three shutouts in 18 games since being called up from Syracuse (AHL) in early November. He leads the NHL in goals-against average, is tied for second in shutouts and ranks third in save percentage. He has allowed two goals or less in 12 of his 18 starts, including nine of the last 11. He made 20 saves to beat Philadelphia 3-0 on Dec. 27, recording his third shutout of the season.

MISCELLANEOUS: LW Rick Nash has tallied 5-6-11 in his last 13 games and continues to lead the club with 15-15-30 in 35 outings… C R.J. Umberger has collected 2-3-5 in has last five games after enduring a seven-game point drought… C Manny Malhotra scored his fourth goal of the season and won 15-of-17 face-offs in a 3-0 win over Philadelphia on Dec. 27… He leads the club and is among NHL leaders in face-off percentage (58.5 percent)… D Jan Hejda scored his second goal of the season and third of his career vs. Philadelphia on Dec. 27. The goal was also his first career game-winning goal.

 

TEAM NOTES
JACKETS END CALENDAR YEAR HOT ON HOME ICE: Since enduring a three-game home losing streak from Nov. 12-26, the Blue Jackets posted a 6-1-0 mark in their last seven games at Nationwide Arena. The club outscored its opponents 16 to 8 during that span and successfully killed off 24-of-26 opponent power plays.

JACKETS LOOKING TO REBOUND AWAY FROM HOME: Columbus begins its longest stretch of road games (six) this week looking to halt a season-high seven-game winless streak. The club has gone 0-6-1 on the road since going 3-0-2 from Oct. 30-Nov. 22. The club has been outscored 27 to 14 during the drought.

COLUMBUS FEASTS ON THE EAST: The Blue Jackets have posted a 6-1-1 record in eight games against Eastern Conference opponents this season. Since suffering a 3-1 home loss to the NY Rangers on Oct. 24 and a 4-3 overtime loss at the NY Islanders on Nov. 3, the club has won six in a row vs. the East – Nov. 7 – 4-3 vs. Montreal, Dec. 14 – 6-1 at Buffalo, Nov. 22 – 2-0 at Atlanta, Nov. 29 – 3-0 vs. Washington, Dec. 13 – 3-1 vs. NY Islanders and Dec. 27 – 3-0 vs. Philadelphia.

Tune into "Breaking Down the Game" exclusively on the "Jackets Insider Channel" on Jackets TV at www.BlueJackets.com. Blue Jackets coaches break down key plays from previous games, utilizing computer graphics to direct the viewer's attention to highlighted players or other pertinent elements and explaining the plays as they unfold. Each episode of "Breaking Down the Game" will be available by 1 p.m. with the next one airing on January 5.
