U.S. Women's National Team Falls to Canada at Pre-Olympic Test Event

TORINO, Italy -The U.S. Women's National Team fell to Canada, 5-0, in the final game of round-robin play at the pre-Olympic Test Event in Torino, Italy, today. With a 2-1 record, Team USA will play in the tournament final on Saturday against Canada.

Hayley Wickenheiser opened the scoring for Team Canada, potting a shot from the crease at just 0:22 of the first period. At 17:18 Correne Bredin made it 2-0 when she lifted a shot to the near corner.

Midway through the second stanza with Canada on the power play, Caroline Ouellette scored on a low shot from the side of the net to up the Canadian lead to 3-0. Just over two minutes later with Canada again on the man-advantage, Jayna Hefford fired in a slapshot for the 4-0 score. Dana Antal wrapped up the scoring for Canada with a shorthanded goal at 2:49 of the third period.

The USA and Canada will meet again in the tournament final at Palasport Olimpico on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. (11 a.m. EST).

Notes: Both USA games at Torinio Esposizioni were attended by groups of local school children. Following tomorrow's re-match, the USA and Canada will meet back in the USA for the fourth game of the Hilton Family Skate to 2006 Tour on November 27 (Sun.) at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
