TRAINING CAMP ROSTER

RICK NASH UPDATE

LW Rick Nash suffered an ankle sprain in Wednesday's 5-3 Team Red scrimmage victory over Team White and is expected to be sidelined two to three weeks.

RICK NASH QUOTES ABOUT HIS INJURY

On the injury occurring right at the start of training camp and whether or not it’s a mental setback…

“Anytime you have an injury it’s a setback, but it's not like I was off a year and then this happens. I played last year in Switzerland, then in the World Championships then at Team Canada's (Olympic Orientation) camp, so I think that will help. It’s a part of sports, and any game you play in, injury is a part of it. It’s better to happen now than 20 games into the season.”

On not wanting to rush back and how important rehab is…

“There’s no point in rushing it. We still have two and a half weeks until our first game. There’s no point in getting back out there early, you just have to make sure you take the time to let it heal and make sure it heals 110 percent before you try it.”

PRACTICE RECAP

Team Red (1-1) practiced this morning from 9:30-11 a.m., before completing an off-ice workout with head strength and conditioning coach Barry Brennan. Team White and Team Blue, meanwhile, lined up for a scrimmage at 11:15 a.m.

SCRIMMAGE

Brian Berard, Nikolai Zherdev and David Vyborny each scored goals to ignite a four-goal second half as Team White (2-0) overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Team Blue, 4-2.

Phillipe Dupuis put Team Blue (0-2) on the board at 21:15, scoring on a rebound of a Brian Gornick attempt.

In the second half, the coaches switched things up a bit, allowing teams to practice their special teams, awarding power plays for infractions. Team Blue and Geoff Sanderson capitalized on the opportunity, as Sanderson scored off an assist from Aaron Johnson, to put Team Blue up 2-0, early in the second half.

Berard scored at 48:20 to cut the lead in half, and Zherdev knotted the game at two, scoring shorthanded, off an assist from Peter Sarno. Tyler Wright scored the game-winning goal at 53:50, while Vyborny added some insurance, scoring an unassisted goal at 56:45 to conclude the scoring.

As a result of the victory, Team White will play Team Red for the Tournament Championship at 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Dispatch Ice House. Team Blue, meanwhile, will practice from 8:30-10 a.m. on the main ice at Nationwide Arena.
