Three Blue Jackets Prospects Selected to Play in 2008 American Hockey League All-Star Classic

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Three members of the Columbus Blue Jackets organization – forwards Derick Brassard and Joakim Lindstrom and defenseman Clay Wilson – have been selected to participate in the 2008 American Hockey League All-Star Classic, the club and AHL announced January 10. Brassard will play for the Canadian All-Stars, while Lindstrom and Wilson will play for the Planet USA All-Stars. The All-Star Game will be played on Monday, January 28 at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, New York.

Brassard, 20, was Columbus' first pick, sixth overall, in the 2006 Entry Draft. He has tallied five goals and 20 assists for 25 points with 20 penalty minutes in 21 games with the Syracuse Crunch this season. He is tied for third in scoring among AHL rookies despite missing 19 games due to a broken jaw. The Hull, Quebec native is playing in his first professional season after registering 75-143-218 and 141 penalty minutes in 151 career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games with Drummondville from 2003-07.

Lindstrom, who was called up by the Blue Jackets on December 27 and has 2-4-6 in nine games with the club, currently ranks eighth in the AHL in scoring with 15-23-38 and 50 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Crunch. The Skelleftea, Sweden native was Columbus' second pick, 41st overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft, and has registered 55-82-137 and 136 penalty minutes in 156 career AHL games.

Wilson has tallied 6-17-23 and 20 penalty minutes in 37 games with the Crunch and Portland Pirates, including 3-12-15 and 14 penalty minutes in 23 games with Syracuse this season. The 24-year-old Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota native was acquired by the Blue Jackets along with Aaron Rome from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Geoff Platt on November 15. He has registered 28-83-111 and 118 penalty minutes in 190 career AHL games.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Friday when they host the St. Louis Blues at Nationwide Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Live coverage on FSN Ohio will begin with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM, Sports Radio 1460 The Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
