This Week in Blue Jackets History: Feb. 10-16

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Every Wednesday, will highlight the best games and most memorable moments from the history of the Columbus Blue Jackets. This week we look back at the best from February 10-16.

February 10, 2001 –
The hats come raining down at Nationwide Arena for the first time. Veteran sniper Geoff Sanderson beats Pred's goalie Mike Dunham three times in a 3-2 win over Nashville to register the first ever hat trick in Columbus Blue Jackets franchise history. While it took about half the season for a Columbus player to manufacture a three-goal game, the next two come in the next five weeks after Sanderson's memorable night – defenseman Deron Quint scores three in a 7-6 win over Florida on March 9 and one week later on March 16, Tyler Wright scores the first of his three hat tricks as a Jacket with all three goals in a 3-0 win over Atlanta.

February 13, 2003 – Defenseman Jaroslav Spacek beats Jose Theodore :28 seconds into overtime to give the Blue Jackets a big 2-1 road win over the Montreal Canadiens. The goal is the fastest ever overtime winner by Columbus. Spacek was actually responsible for the two quickest OT winners in franchise history – on April 12, 2002 his power-play marker just 29 seconds into the extra period gave the Jackets a 5-4 win over Atlanta.

February 16, 2004 – Center Manny Malhotra showcases his offensive side in a 4-2 Columbus win over the Predators at Nationwide Arena. Malhotra lights the lamp at 7:02 of the second period and then buries a second goal on the power play at 8:44 of the same frame. The two goals in a span of just 1:42 are the fastest ever by a single Blue Jacket player.
