The Blue Jackets and their fans know that almost every game is a so-called "playoff" game but tonight's certainly takes on added significance!! A regulation victory and the CBJ move into sole possession of 8th place in the Western Conference and then the Jackets can set their sites higher where coach Hitchcock wants them to be!
Tonight's the proverbial 4-pointer and Blue Jackets look to Steve Mason to come up with yet another strong performance in the CBJ nets. Mason continues to lead the league in goals against, save percentage and shutouts. Tonight he makes his 11th straight start and 19th in the past 21 games. With many NHL teams now at the halfway point of their respective seasons...many bloggers and sports writers are picking their trophy winners at the season's midway point and ALL are naming Mason as the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year honors. Mason will be opposed tonight by Andrew Raycroft who is on a career high 7 game winning streak.
Speaking of streaks... the Blue Jackets have won 7 of their last 8 games at Nationwide... while the Avs come into the building having won 3 in a row.
Rick Nash skated again today and is expected to join his teammates for practice tomorrow.
Tonight's game is in Spectacular High Definition on Fox Sports Ohio at 7 p.m. Enjoy the game!
