Team Wolfe Captures First Owners Tournament title with 5-1 win

Captain Rick Nash netted a hat trick and forwards Kristian Huselius and Tom Sestito added goals to give Team Wolfe a 5-1 victory over Team Crane in the first ever Columbus Blue Jackets' Owners Championship.

Huselius opened the scoring in the first period with a goal on assists from center Derek MacKenzie and Nash. No. 61 added a second tally with 5:30 left in the period to give Team Wolfe a 2-0 lead heading into the second 20 minutes.

Daniel Steiner scored the lone goal for Team Crane, but that was the only shot to beat goaltender Steve Mason. Mason made save after save and played both periods for Team Wolfe.

Goaltender Mathieu Garon played the first period and gave way to Dan LaCosta in the second period for Team Crane. He too allowed two goals, Sestito’s with 9:28 remaining and Nash's second tally with 2:49 left in the game.

Nash got the hat trick when defenseman John Moore tried to get around him in front of an empty net. The captain stole the puck and chipped it in to the open goal with nine seconds on the clock.

Assistant Coach Claude Noel presented the trophy to the team after the game and forward Jon Mirasty skated it off the ice.

Team Pizzuti captures third place with 5-3 victory over Team McConnell

Defenseman Jonathan Sigalet scored twice, including the game-winning goal early in the second period, to help lead Team Pizzuti to a third place finish in the Owner's Championship.

Sigalet's first goal came midway through the first period after some tic-tac-toe passing by forwards Nikita Filatov and Jakub Voracek, who assisted on the score. The goal gave Team Pizzuti a 2-0 lead after defenseman Marc Methot opened the scoring three and half minutes into the period.

Team McConnell got on the scoreboard with 5:41 remaining in the first period when defenseman Brett Regner beat goaltender Jamie Tucker. The teams' traded goals in the final 2:36 of period one – forward Maksim Mayorov scored for Team Pizzuti and Cass Mappin for Team McConnell.

Sigalet's second goal came 34 seconds into the second and final period gave Team Pizzuti a 4-2 lead. Defenseman Jan Hejda cut the lead to one with a shot from the point that beat goaltender Kevin Lalande.

There were some big hits in period two, highlighted by forward Alexandre Picard’s crushing hit to defenseman Kevin Roeder behind the net on a fore-check. With the increased physical play, the only goal in the final 17:43 was scored on the power play by Filatov, with assists from center Jared Aulin and Voracek.

Goaltenders Lalande (four goals), Tucker (two goals) and Andrew Loverock (two goals) all rotated in the nets for both teams.
