The Springfield Falcons and Charlotte Checkers wrap up their season series in Charlotte, NC this week starting on Wednesday night. The Falcons are 1-1 against the Checkers this season with both games occurring in Springfield. Charlotte beat the Falcons back on October 10 by a score of 4-1 only to see Springfield come back and take a 7-3 decision on January 8. The Falcons scored five first period goals against Charlotte in their last meeting on their way to a season high seven goals in that contest.

Chris D'Alvise and Nikita Filatov each lead the Falcons in scoring against Charlotte with three points each. D'Alvise has two goals and one assist, while Filatov has posted one goal and two assists. Maksim Mayorov has two goals in two games against Charlotte this year.

Former Falcon Jacob Micflikier leads Charlotte in scoring against Springfield with one goal and three assists for four points in two games. Chris Terry has two goals in two games against the Falcons this year.

Charlotte remains one of the top teams in the East Division with a record of 23-15-1-4 good for 51 points and third place. Jerome Samson leads the Checkers in scoring with 20 goals and 22 assists for 42 points in 43 games. Charlotte starts the week having scored the second most goals in the Eastern Conference and they have three players in the top 17 in scoring in the league.

Jacob Micflikier is 15th in the league in scoring with 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in 41 games. Oskar Osala is 17th in the league in points with 10 goals and 25 assists for 35 points in 43 games.

The Springfield Falcons and Connecticut Whale meet for the fifth time this season and first time since the Whale changed their name from the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Falcons are 3-1 against Connecticut/Hartford this year with three of the four games being decided by just one goal. The Falcons and Whale/Wolf Pack haven't met since back on November 19 when Hartford beat Springfield 5-2.

The Whale enter the week with a record of 21-16-2-5 good for 49 points and third place in the Atlantic Division. Mike Blunden and John Moore lead the Falcons in scoring against the Whale/Wolf Pack this year with four points each. Tomas Kubalik and Maksim Mayorov are tied with Blunden for most goals against Connecticut this year.

Kris Newbury leads Connecticut in scoring against Springfield this year with one goal and four assists for five points in four games. Chad Kolarik has three goals and one assist in two games against the Falcons this year.

The Springfield Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers meet for the sixth time this season when they get together on Sunday afternoon at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons are 3-1-0-1 against the Sound Tigers this year including 2-0 on home ice.

The Falcons and Sound Tigers are separated by only one point in the standings entering this week. Both teams will be looking to get back on the winning track this week as Springfield has lost three straight, while Bridgeport is 0-5-2-0 in their last seven games.

Dane Byers leads the Falcons in scoring against the Sound Tigers this year with four goals and three assists for seven points in seven games. Trevor Frischmon has collected seven assists in seven games against Bridgeport this year, while Tomas Kubalik has two goals and four assists for six points in five games against Bridgeport.

Micheal Haley is Bridgeport's active leader in scoring against the Falcons this year with one goal and four assists for five points in five games.



January 14, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons held the lead for the majority of the night, but the Worcester Sharks used a pair of power play goals in the third period to skate away with a 3-1 win over the Falcons on Friday night at the MassMutual Center.

Despite a scoreless first period, the frame featured a pair of altercations as Dane Byers and Chris Lawrence dropped the gloves, followed by Mike Blunden and Tommy Wingles getting together late in the opening frame.

After a scoreless first period, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead at 3:21 of the second period when Tom Sestito converted on the power play assisted by Ben Guite. The game's second fight occurred in the second period as Steven Goertzen and Joe Loprieno collected fighting majors.

In the third period, the Falcons were holding on to a one goal lead midway through the frame until Worcester was awarded a five-minute power play. On the man advantage, the Sharks scored a pair of goals to take their first lead of the night. Cam MacIntyre tied the game at 12:17 of the third period, followed by Jonathan Cheechoo converting at 14:22 of the final frame giving Worcester a 2-1 lead. Dan DaSilva added an insurance goal late in the third period giving the Sharks a 3-1 win.

January 15, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Albany Devils 6-3 on Saturday night at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. David Savard, Ben Guite and Chris D'Alvise scored for the Falcons.

The Falcons ended up with two power plays in the first period, but it was Albany that took advantage of the situation scoring a pair of shorthanded markers in the opening 20 minutes. Michael Swift gave the Devils a 1-0 lead when he scored his 16th goal of the year at 2:38 of the opening period. Brad Mills converted on a breakaway at 11:32 of the first period giving Albany their second shorthanded marker of the period.

The second period was a very physical period and it took 50 minutes to complete due to multiple altercations and some rough play from both teams. Albany took a 3-0 lead at 7:35 of the middle frame when Adam Henrique scored his first goal of the night even strength. Midway through the second period, there were a handful of scrums as Jonathan Sigalet battled Harry Young in front of the Falcons bench. A few minutes later, Tom Sestito and Pierre-Luc Leblond dropped the gloves for a fight that lasted several minutes, followed by Dane Byers battling Louis Robitaille.

After the rough stuff settled down, the Falcons battled back and cut into their deficit when Savard scored at 11:42 of the second period making at a 3-1 game, followed by Guite converting at 17:10 of the middle frame pulling Springfield to within one. In the final minutes of the second period, Henrique scored his second marker of the period when he tallied on the power play.

Trailing by two heading into the third period, Springfield once again inched within a single goal when D'Alvise scored his seventh goal of the year at 8:08 of the final stanza. Albany added a pair of insurance goals in the final two minutes of the third period ending the scoring for the night.

The game featured 72 total penalty minutes, 33 for the Falcons and 39 for the Devils.

January 16, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Portland Pirates by a score of 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the MassMutual Center. Portland's Mark Parrish scored a pair of goals, while Cody Goloubef tallied for the Falcons.

Both teams were playing their third game in three days and the first period featured each club exchanging scoring chances. Portland's Parrish scored a shorthanded marker at 16:19 of the first period, but Goloubef tied the score at 1-1 when he scored at 17:23 of the opening frame.

After a scoreless second period, Portland regained their lead at 2-1 when Matt Ellis scored his eighth marker of the year at 6:53 of the third period. Parrish converted his second goal of the game at 9:30 to add some insurance and give the Pirates a 3-1 advantage. Colin Stuart added an empty net goal in the game's final seconds giving the Pirates a 4-1 win.

Mike Blunden missed his second straight game due to injury. Trevor Smith missed his third straight game due to injury.
