What a journey it has been for Jason Day.
Before we go on, we'll back track (for those who aren't familiar): the Day-Blue Jackets connection is multi-faceted. His wife, Ellie, is from central Ohio. The couple, along with three-year-old son Dash, makes its home in Westerville. Day is a member at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, site of the Memorial Tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus.
Muirfield Village is where Day met some of his good buddies, including Blue Jackets forwards Brandon Dubinsky and Jared Boll. Along with former Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski, those guys have played countless rounds of golf together -- and a couple of years ago, the Blue Jackets invited Day, a proud Australian, to Nationwide Arena to take the ice and shoot some pucks with the team after practice.
You can search BlueJackets.com for the video footage, along with Day's honest self-assessment.
Anyway, we're here because Day closed out the 2015 PGA Championship with a final round 67 (-5), good for a three-shot victory over Jordan Spieth and his first career major championship at age 27.
And his friends were right there with him on a memorable Sunday at Whistling Straits.
