Six Points of Eight

by Bill Davidge / Columbus Blue Jackets

November 6

News out of the TV booth on my behalf has been stagnant the past two weeks. I had another set back with my typing arm and am slowly getting back to recovery. Getting back to the past couple of weeks on the ice, the last four games have allowed the CBJ a chance to show the knack to collect points. Points that in years past would have slid by the wayside have now been added to the standings column in a positive light.

A heart-breaking SOL to the defending Cup Champs Penguins... an OTW in Washington... a SOL to the reigning President Trophy winners San Jose... and a game last night in Atlanta, a 4-3 win which possibly could have been classified as a STINKER... all have spotted the CBJ to six crucial points. Not all that bad.

As fans; as broadcasters and especially coaches and players, the thought for this team after 15 games is a unanimous conclusion - the BEST hockey is yet to come!

The core ingredients of the hockey team stand as follows:

  • Nash is off to his greatest start ever, this truly could be a magical year for No. 61
  • Mason is playing with confidence and poise as of late. He will get the physical aspects of the game back as his mental approach returns to the Mason of last season
  • Raffi Torres has been hot, hits and goals dot his resume. It is simply amazing when healthy what "want and desire" can accomplish in a simple game
  • Jan Hejda has been sorely missed with his sprained knee. After missing eight games, it became apparent his loss was more than one can imagine. Defensive creates offense and his quiet non-assuming game was sorely missed

This team can be as good as it wants to be, regardless of what the hockey nation speculates. This is a close knit group that has the dedication and future discipline to continue on an upward trend. The road record of 5-4-0 is one indication of things to come. The overall record of 8-5-2 is one that will improve. Two long road trips out of the way and now a chance to catch our breath are in the cards in the nest week.

Sigh... moan... look out people, because the fun has just begun!!
