Seth Jones Named To NHL Second All-Star Team

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones was named to the NHL's Second All-Star Team, the club and NHL announced tonight at the 2018 NHL Awards in Las Vegas. Voting for the All-Star Teams were conducted by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season. He becomes the first skater in club history to be voted to the First or Second All-Star Team, joining goaltenders Sergei Bobrovsky (First Team in 2012-13 and 2016-17) and Steve Mason (Second Team in 2008-09).

Jones, 23, finished fourth in voting for the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the league's best defenseman after setting career-highs with 16 goals and 41 assists for 57 points with 30 penalty minutes and a +10 plus/minus rating in 78 games. He tied for the league lead among blueliners in power play goals (seven) and ranked fourth in goals (tied), game-winning goals (four, tied) and shots (249), eighth-T in power play points (24) and 10th-T in points. His 16 tallies shared the club mark for goals by a defensemen in a single season with teammate Zach Werenski and his 57 points surpassed James Wisniewski's 51 points registered in 2013-14. The 6-4, 210-pound defenseman was selected to play in his second-straight All-Star Game but missed the contest in Tampa due to illness.
A native of Arlington, Texas, Jones was the first-round pick, fourth overall, of the Nashville Predators in the 2013 NHL Draft. He was acquired by Columbus in a trade on January 6, 2016 and has registered 45-137-182 and 120 penalty minutes in 393 career NHL games, including 30-89-119, 66 penalty minutes and a +7 plus/minus rating in 194 career games with the Jackets.
