Season ticket holders enjoy exclusive experiences

by Kristyn Repke / Columbus Blue Jackets

Columbus Blue Jackets season ticket holders are offered several perks, including exclusive access to the Blue Jackets players, coaches and management, private events and unique contests, among other various activities.

The Season Ticket Holder Sweepstakes, a promotion that ran from March 22 through April 19, offered over 600 prizes to season ticket holders. If they renewed their season tickets for the 2013-14 season, the season ticket holders had better odds of winning the daily drawings.

Don Wietmarschen was one of the sweepstakes winners. He won a trip to the 2013 NHL Draft in Newark, N.J. as part of the season ticket holder sweepstakes--a trip he won't soon forget.

"It was just a great experience," said Wietmarschen. "The arena was awesome and everyone was very pleasant. The arena was louder than I remembered a draft ever being...everything was first-class."

With the experience, Wietmarschen was able to enjoy another NHL city that the Blue Jackets will become familiar with, since the Blue Jackets are in the Metropolitan Division with the New Jersey Devils beginning with the 2013-14 season.

"We flew into Newark and we stayed right next to the arena, had lunch at one of the places nearby," said Wietmarschen. "We found a nice Portuguese restaurant as well."

Kim and Brent Barnes won a lunch outing with Blue Jackets head coach Todd Richards. For the husband and wife - who are huge Blue Jackets fans - this was the opportunity of a lifetime. The three of them went to the local restaurant Cap City Diner, where Richards offered appetizer suggestions and they all talked hockey.

"At first, I didn't know what to expect and I was a little nervous," said Kim Barnes. "He was very personable and easy to talk to. We talked about how I got interested in hockey with the Ft. Wayne Komets, a team Coach Richards said he played against when he was younger."

Barnes and her husband have been season ticket holders for several years and follow the team closely, but being able to talk to Richards gave them a greater appreciation for his role in the Blue Jackets organization.

"I'm really glad I had this chance," said Barnes. "I now know how tough his job is on a whole different level."

"We would love to have lunch with him again, anytime."
