After one of their better 60 minute "team efforts" in Buffalo and a deserving 6-1 over the Sabres the Blue Jackets face a stiffer test against the Wild here in Minnesota.
True to his word...coach Ken Hitchcock, despite the strong effort of Pascal Leclaire - in particular his play in the first period when he stopped all 14 Sabre shots - Hitch said he had zero chance of changing his mind on playing Leclaire over Steve Mason tonight. Says the CBJ coach "we are not going down this path again. Pazzy is not playing back-to-back games. We want him 100 percent and we are not going to rush him. There is a risk factor."
And frankly why should he? Mason, in the coach's words, was the best CBJ player in two of his four starts and is deserving of tonight's assignment against the Wild. His lone loss was at the hands of the Phoenix Coyotes Wednesday night at Nationwide, and as the personable coach said yesterday, his teammates "hung him out to dry" leaving him all alone to face a determined Phoenix team what with all the Coyotes odd man rushes.
There in one lineup change tonight...Rusty Klesla is on the shelf again. This time with an ankle injury that will be reevaluated back in Columbus tomorrow. O.K. Tollefson returns to the lineup in his absence. So much for the Jackets being "totally" healthy.
