After a day off and an optional skate that saw most Blue Jackets take part they swing back into action here in Edmonton tonight.
The Jackets are still a confident group despite picking up just one of the possible four points in the first two games of their five game road trip. I believe they've played well enough to win both in Nashville and Tuesday night in Vancouver.
Tonight's game against the Oilers is in the "must win" category. The Oilers are a young team that is out of the playoff hunt, but they enjoy playing the spoiler role and Tuesday night here in Edmonton squeezed out a 2-1 shootout victory over Nashville - and the Predators needed the points as bad as the Blue Jackets do.
Talking to Coach Scott Arniel after yesterday's optional skate, he said he likes the Jackets mix and likes the team's additions.
"Rivet, Upshall and Lepisto are good people and all three are used to playing big games at this time of the year," Arniel said.
Upshall and Lepisto were impressive in their Blue Jacket debut's Tuesday night in Vancouver and the Jackets coach suggested on his radio show last night on 97.1 the Fan that Rivet will likely play tomorrow night in Calgary or Monday night in St. Louis against big physical teams like the Flames and the Blues.
The Jackets tonight need a quick start against the young and speedy Oilers. They are getting quality scoring chances but they need to find the back of the net. They've scored just three goals in the first two games of the road trip, but Tuesday night was one of those night's when you have to credit the opposing goaltender in Roberto Luongo, who was outstanding in turning aside 30 of the 31 shots he faced prior to the shootout.
It's a 9 p.m. start Columbus time tonight on FOX Sports Ohio, preceded by Blue Jackets Live at 8:30 p.m. with Ray Crawford. All in High Definition!
