While others may have written off the Blue Jackets chances of making it to the post season, I can tell you that Coach Scott Arniel and his players have definitely not!
Inside the CBJ dressing room the players feel they "CAN" put a string of wins together starting tonight against the Detroit Red Wings and they are not about to throw in the towel.
It will take 10 or 11 wins out of their remaining 13 games and some good fortune from the teams ahead of them. It's a bit of a long shot, but not out of the realm of possibility.
The goaltender match up was supposed to see the Wings return of Chris Osgood after missing considerable action due to a sports hernia. But, Osgood needs more rest after practicing three straight days, so Detroit recalled Joey MacDonald from Grand Rapids and he will start ahead of Jimmy Howard tonight against the Blue Jackets Steve Mason. MacDonald is 3-1-1 against the Blue Jackets, while Mason's career mark against the Wings is 6-7-2.
The Blue Jackets are 2-2-1 against the Red Wings this season and with a win in regulation the Jackets will win the season series over Detroit for the first time in franchise history. When asked this morning about the Jackets success against the Wings, CBJ coach Scott Arniel said, "they bring out the best in his squad. They are a division opponent and there's the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry that has had an effect on the team."
Tonight's game is in HD beginning at 7 p.m. on FOX Sports Ohio.
