The Blue Jackets have certainly picked the most inopportune time for their longest win-less streak of the season.
After last night's 4-3 loss to the L.A. Kings and after going 0-4-3 in the last seven, the Jackets are now 10 points back of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The stretch comes after the Jackets had gone 8-1-1 in their previous 10 starts and set a franchise record with six straight road wins. But that unfortunately is now a distant memory just when it appeared that their playoff push had some traction.
Here in Carolina, where the Blue Jackets will meet the Hurricanes tonight, Coach Scott Arniel says the Jackets simply need to get a win to end the skid and hopefully turn things around.
The CBJ will need to be at their best tonight. The Hurricanes are in a fight for their playoff lives starting the day just two points out of 8th place currently held by the NY Rangers. It's interesting to note Carolina has almost the identical record as the CBJ, but of course they are in the Eastern Conference and thus in playoff mix. Enough said about that, it's a topic for another day.
Arniel, after watching the tape of last night's Canes-Capitals game - won by the Caps 2-1 - in Washington, had high praise for the Hurricanes saying, "they are a team that can skate, have high energy, are an experienced team and are fighting for a playoff spot."
The Jackets head man will be looking for his team to take something positive out of the game early... a successful power play, a strong penalty kill or even a lucky bounce to turn their fortunes around.
We will have the game for you on FOX Sports Ohio beginning with Blue Jackets Live at 6:30 p.m.
