After Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames the Blue Jackets will attempt to avenge another overtime defeat on last week's Western Canadian trip tonight at Nationwide.
Vancouver suffered a 5-4 loss to the Red Wings in Detroit last night and are making their first of two visits to Central Ohio tonight, playing their third game in four nights. I thought last night's game was reminiscent of a playoff game with Vancouver deserving a better fate, had it not been for a couple of soft goals given up by Roberto Luongo.
Ohio State Buckeye product Ryan Kesler, who recorded his first NHL hat trick against the Jackets last week, had another solid game for Vancouver assisting on three of the Canucks goals and somehow the Blue Jackets must find a way to shut-him down tonight. Kesler is currently riding a five-game points streak.
Mathieu Garon again will start for the Blue Jackets while Cory Schneider will start in goal for Vancouver. It's interesting to note that Schneider played for Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel in Manitoba on the Canucks' AHL team. Does Arniel have a secret to share with his team on the Canucks starter tonight. Stay tuned, but I can tell you Schneider is a solid goaltender and could be a starter for several other NHL teams.
Game time for the final Blue Jackets start prior to the brief Christmas Break is 7 p.m. in HD on FOX Sports Ohio, with pre-game starting at 6:30 p.m.
In closing, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
