The Blue Jackets conclude their three-game Western Canadian tour here in Edmonton tonight. For the Jackets it will be their fifth game in eight nights, but I sense a quiet confidence in the team.
Head coach Scott Arniel, with the resiliency the team has shown in coming from behind in both Calgary and Vancouver and their recent play before that, proclaims "we are back to playing the game like we did earlier this season."
I asked him about the power play with tying goals in each of the two games on the trip to salvage points in both Calgary and Vancouver and his response was, "it's still a work in progress, but we have scored timely goals and we are creating zone time and gaining some confidence."
The Jackets must be ready to play at the drop of the puck tonight because this young Oilers hockey team has speed, which has presented a problem for the Jackets at times this season. Getting the first goal is another key tonight. The Jackets have had to come from behind in the first period in each of the last four games. On the other hand, they are 12-2-0 when they score first.
Tonight's game represents the first time that Ethan Moreau returns to Edmonton since being acquired by the Blue Jackets this summer. Moreau told the huge contingent of Edmonton media members here at the team hotel today that Edmonton was a special place for him and his family, but he is happy to be in Columbus. The Oilers former captain says it has been a smooth transition with the Blue Jackets and he is just now getting back to feeling 100 percent, since his return from a broken hand. He added, "I have a lot of memories of my time here, it's a special place where I met great people and played with great players."
Game time is 9:30 p.m. on FOX Sports Ohio, with Ray Crawford kicking things off with Blue Jackets Live at 9 p.m. Eastern in HD.
