The Blue Jackets begin their Western Canadian swing here in Calgary tonight against the struggling and under fire Flames.
Pardon the pun, but the Flames have lost three of their last four games and the local Calgary media and the fans are relentless, they want changes and changes now! From the General Manager to the head coach to the team's president.
There was a poll in the Calgary Herald that I read upon arriving last night asking fans who is responsible for the Flames last place standing in the Western Conference, and no one escapes blame. Then, after checking into the hotel last night I went out with several college buddies and basically heard the same as we watched Vancouver square off with Edmonton.
Today at the morning skate Flames head coach Brent Sutter stated he is not at all concerned about the Blue Jackets, he is simply focused on his team. As is his practice of late, Sutter is not even informing his team as to his club's lineup and will simply have everyone out for the pre-game warm-up and then let those not going to be in uniform know minutes prior to the start of the game.
One Flame that is on his game presently is captain Jarome Iginla. After a slow start Iginla is currently riding a seven-game point streak and has 10 goals and 19 points in the last 15 games.
As for the Blue Jackets, coach Scott Arniel talked about the team's success on the three-game trip to California and is hoping for much the same on this journey through Alberta and British Columbia. Arniel was pleased with Saturday's victory at Nationwide saying, "I liked our game versus the New York Rangers and we need much the same tonight, getting our cycle, fore-check and puck possession game going early. We know what we have to do to be successful."
Game time tonight is 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on FOX Sports Ohio with Ray Crawford and Blue Jackets Live kicking things off at 8:30 p.m. - all in HD.
