The Blue Jackets struggled through another slow start against Kuujjuaq (Koo-ja-wack), a Northern Quebec team which is sponsored and coached by former NHL player Joé Juneau.

The first period was not crisp for either team as neither team was able to control the puck or tempo.

First period goals for the "Jackets" came from James Eastep, assisted by Nick Maley and Michael O'Connell. The second goal came from Brennan Stewart, assisted by Brent Whitehead and John-Henry Fischer. The first period ended with 2 to 1 in favor of the "Jackets".

The second period had a much different tone with the defense sparking a change in tempo by tenaciously shutting down the long, over-the-top breakout passes from team Kuujjuaq and allowing the offense to work their offense.

Second period goals for the "Jackets" came from Jude Warner, assisted by Brent Whitehead and Michael O'Connell and from Michael O'Connell, assisted by Gabe Martin and Brent Whitehead. The defense continued with their aggressive D, holding their opponent to a single goal.

Third period saw the " Jackets" extend their lead, out-skating and out passing their opponent producing three goals, two from Alex Cathis and one from James Eastep. Third period assists came from John-Henry Fischer, Jude Warner (2), Gabe Martin, Ian Flinders and Michael O'Connell.

The home squad had 23 shots on goal while their opponent made 16. Final score was "Jackets" 7 and Kuujjuaq 3.

Throughout the third period Kuujjuaq work feverishly to change the momentum of the game only to be blunted by "Jacket" goalie Logan Davis who capped off the victory with a picture perfect glove save with 5 seconds remaining.

The "Jackets" will play 3 exhibition games before resuming tournament play on Friday against Italy.
