Quebec Pee Wee Jackets Update III: Feb. 11, 2010

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Quebec City, Quebec (Feb. 11, 2010) - The Quebec Pee-Wees, coaches, and parents made the 16 hour journey from Columbus to Québec, where they were greeted by near balmy temperatures (-2 C) and no winter storm warnings. As the parents and coaches checked into the hotel the boys got ready to meet their billet families, turned over their hockey gear, and checked in with tournament officials at the Colisee Pepsi (http://bit.ly/cQmKku for the Wikipedia write-up), the host arena for the tournament.

Players and parents met the billet families at the Colisee this evening and the players were last seen in pairs dragging suitcases and bags filled with boots, snow gear, and pond hockey skates, off to their Quebec family's waiting cars.

Exhibition Game 1: After a night with their billet families, the Blue Jackets faced off against the Anaheim Ducks in an exhibition game at Val-Belair. The Jackets jumped on Anaheim early, scoring three first period goals by Kole Sherwood (from Jack Roslovic), Zach Tyson (Cameron Sangster), and Karsten Green-Church (Kole Sherwood), while Grant Powell held the Ducks scoreless.

The Jackets' long bus ride from the previous day caught up with them in the second period and Anaheim capitalized with two goals off the sticks of Gebauer and Selanne (yes, that Selanne). In the third period the Jackets shut down the Ducks and Carson Meyer netted an insurance goal to make the final score 4-2.

The boys left with the billet families for a day of pond hockey and an early bedtime for the next morning's game.
