Quebec Pee Wee Jackets Update: Feb. 13, 2011

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

The '98 Ohio AAA Blue Jackets played their first tournament game in the Quebec PeeWee Tournament on Saturday.

The Jackets played local Quebec team Beaubourg Seigneurs in the AA Legare division. The division consists of 18 teams with the winner of this division playing the winner of the AA Bolduc division.

For the Jackets, the first round game was a closely contested match. Beaubourg took a 1-0 lead early in the first period, however the Jackets answered back with a goal by Sam Swanson less than two minutes later, assisted by Chris Stoll and Connor Pooley. There the game would remain tied until the end of regulation.

Unfortunatley, at 1:08 into the overtime period the Beaubourg team scored a goal to win. Eric Dop played in goal for the Jackets and had a terrific performance seeing 32 shots and making 30 saves. Since the Jackets' loss occurred in the first round, they are still very much alive.

Teams that lose their first game in both divisions get a second chance by playing in a bracket of teams who also lost in the first round. The winner of this bracket is then matched up with the team that went undefeated in division play (which is the semi-final game for the overall 36 team field).

The Jackets do have a quality opponent, Pembina Trail Twins (Winnipeg), who also suffered a tough overtime loss in the first round, though theirs was decided in an eight-man shootout.

Go Jackets!
