Friday night Columbus faced off against the team from Switzerland in round one tournament action at the Colisee. The teams took the ice after almost a two hour delay and the Swiss were not neutral in their play as they blanked the Jackets 4-0. The Jackets were faced with six penalty minutes in the 10 minute first period and the defensive effort was solid as the Jackets held the Swiss to just one goal.
The second period saw the Jackets control the flow a bit more while they acclimated themselves to the no checking rule and took only one penalty. The Swiss netted one goal in the second while the Jackets were unable to capitalize on some solid offensive opportunities leaving them down 2-0 at the end of the second period. In the third period the Swiss came out strong and netted two additional goals, while holding the Jackets to just two shots on net. Goaltender Connor Willete played well but the speed and offensive pressure proved to be too much for the team from the Buckeye state in late night action. Shots on goal: Jackets 9, Swiss Romande 17. Penalty Minutes: Jackets 10, Swiss Romande 14.
On Sunday, the players and parents enjoyed a few hours at the local snow park then attended a dinner held in honor of the Blue Jacket billet families.
On Monday the team will play two exhibition games as they prepare to play England in round two of tournament play later in the week.
The team would like to thank CCYHA for their continued support of the team.
