This year will mark the 10th-straight in which Columbus has participated in the event. The Blue Jackets won the tournament championship in 2006 and 2007. In addition to Columbus, NHL clubs participating this year include the Atlanta Thrashers, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues.
Practice sessions and tournament games will be held on the facility's two sheets of ice – David's Rink and Huntington Rink – located at 1544 Hammond Road, Traverse City, Michigan 49686 (Phone – 231/933-7465). The Blue Jackets will play in the Gretzky Division along with Carolina, Minnesota and NY Rangers. The Howe Division will consist of Dallas, Detroit, St. Louis and Tampa Bay. The Blue Jackets' rookie camp roster will feature 29 players, including 16 who were selected by the club via the NHL Entry Draft. Leading the group will be the Blue Jackets' top picks from the past two Entry Drafts, center Ryan Johansen and defenseman John Moore. Other drafted players include: 2010 – Brandon Archibald, Mathieu Corbeil, Ryan Johansen, Austin Madaisky, Dalton Prout, Dalton Smith, Petr Straka; 2009 – Anton Blomqvist, John Moore, Kyle Neuber, David Savard; 2008 – Matt Calvert, Steven Delisle, Cody Goloubef, Tomas Kubalik; 2006 – Nick Sucharski.
Columbus General Manager Scott Howson, Assistant General Manager Chris MacFarland, Director of Hockey Operations and Player Personnel Don Boyd, Director of Amateur Scouting Paul Castron and Development Coach Tyler Wright will lead members of the organization's hockey operations staff who will also be on hand for portions of the tournament.
The Blue Jackets rookies will be coached in Traverse City by Rob Riley, head coach of the club's American Hockey League affiliate Springfield Falcons. He will be assisted by Falcons Assistant Coach Brad Larsen.
Blue Jackets veterans and rookies will officially open the club's 10th training camp with physicals and strength testing on Friday, September 17, before taking the ice for the first time on Saturday, September 18. A complete schedule will be released prior to the opening of training camp.
The Blue Jackets will open their 10th NHL season with a pair of games against the San Jose Sharks at Ericcson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden on Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9. The home opener is set for Friday, Oct. 15, when the club hosts the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks. Game time from Nationwide Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET.
