Prospects Report

Jakub Voracek RW
18 years old, 6-2, 190 pounds (Kladno, Czech Republic)

Columbus' 1st pick, 7th overall, 2007 NHL Entry Draft

Voracek is dominating play with the Halifax Mooseheads this season, ranking near the top of the offensive Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in scoring.

Columbus' first selection in 2007 has three goals and a league-high 19 assists through eight games. The 22 points ties Voracek for fourth in QMJHL scoring, despite having played eight fewer games than the league leader. He is the reigning offensive player of the week in the league, with a game-winning goal and six assists in three outings.

Derick Brassard C
20 years old, 6-1, 172 pounds (Hull, Quebec)

Columbus' 71st pick, 6th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft

After an impressive training camp with Columbus in which the creative Brassard earned some attention for his strong play, the club's top pick from 2006 is establishing himself as a threat in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch. He had three goals and six assists through four games with Syracuse, leading all Crunch players in points.

Stefan Legein RW
18 years old, 5-9, 170 pounds (Oakville, Ontario)

Columbus' 2nd pick, 37th overall in 2007 NHL Entry Draft

Legein didn't waste any time displaying his combination of speed, skill and knack for scoring as he notched the Niagara IceDogs' first goal of the season in a 4-1 win over the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors. The talented winger, who scored 43 times in 64 games with the IceDogs last season, already had 10 goals and eight assists through 11 games in 2007/08, including an impressive three-goal, one-assist effort on October 4 in a 7-3 win over the Majors.

Steve Mason G
19 years old, 6-3, 186 pounds (Oakville, Ontario)

Columbus' 2nd pick, 69th overall in 2006 NHL Entry Draft

Mason has been a standout on the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights this year, earning every one of the team’s victories through 11 games. He was the OHL's Goaltender of the Year in 2006-07 after racking up a league record 45 wins and he was perfect through five outings this season – five wins, one shutout and the league lead in both goals against average (1.60) and save percentage (0.955).

Will Weber D
18 years old - he turns 19 on October 28, 6-4, 205 pounds (Traverse City, Michigan)

Columbus' 3rd pick, 53rd overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft

Weber, the first overall selection in the United States Hockey League draft, is emerging into a dominant force on the Chicago Steel's blueline. Through six games with the USHL club, Weber had two goals and three assists, with 10 shots on goal and an impressive plus-five rating. The towering defenseman also racked 18 penalty minutes and has proved his worth on special teams, scoring one of his two goals and adding two assists on the power play.

Jesse Dudas D
19 years old, 6-1, 228 pounds (St. Albert, Alberta)

Columbus' 8th pick, 159th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft

Dudas showed the ability to be a playmaker from the back end with the Western Hockey League's Prince George Cougars last season, averaging almost an assist per game. The Jackets' 2006 selection is continuing the trend this year – Dudas had six assists through 11 games, tying him for third on the Cougars in that department. He's also displayed some grit by leading the team with 25 penalty minutes.

Jake Hansen RW
18 years old, 6-1, 182 pounds (St. Paul, Minnesota)

Columbus' 4th pick, 68th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft

Despite being just a few months removed from his 18th birthday, Hansen is already one of the most important contributors on the Sioux Falls Stampede roster. Through five games, Hansen leads the USHL team in goals (three) and points (six). Four of those points (1-3-4) have come on Stampede power plays and he racked up all three of his goals on just eight shots, for a team leading .375 shooting percentage.
