Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Matt Calvert was the sixth-leading scorer for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League during the 2008-09 regular season.
The Blue Jackets fifth pick, 127th overall in the 2008 NHL Draft, Calvert scored 28 goals and registered 39 assists this past season to finish with 67 points. Calvert also led the Wheat Kings in power-play goals during the regular season with 12.
The 5-foot-9, 164-pound forward scored nine goals in the playoffs to co-lead the Wheat Kings. Calvert also added eight assists in the playoffs for a total for 17 points. He co-led the Wheat Kings in playoff goal scoring with four.
Calvert was named the Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week during the week of February 2-8. During that week, he had 10 points on four goals and six assists, helping the Wheat Kings win three games. He scored his first career hat trick that week on February 7 against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
