St. Louis Blues at Columbus Blue Jackets
Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on the game…
"(Scoring the first goal) just validates the way you want to play the game, but I don't think it bothers our team (not to score first). I don’t think a lot bothers our team right now."
"The third period was revved up. I think the second goal gave us some breathing room."
Nash goal - "It was a post up play by Nash. It was a good catch and he took it into the end zone from there, so it was a good play."
Commenting on Nikolai Zherdev…
"He's having fun playing hockey. I think he sees the value in what we area doing for him. We are giving him certain guidelines and turning him loose."
"I've always said he's a very underrated player from the red-line back. For a top skill player, defensively he's so good and he's never out of position - his reads and sticks in lanes are incredible, and his zest to score is coming back."
Commenting on Pascal Leclaire…
"We needed him tonight. We got ourselves in penalty trouble in the second period. He made some big saves tonight, especially in the 5-on-3."
"The last two shutouts he’s had to earn. We needed him big time in the second period and he came through."
"The big thing for him right now is he's physically strong and fit, and he has always had unbelievable athletic ability."
Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Pascal Leclaire
Commenting on St. Louis…
"They show up. They're a big team; they work hard. You can't just let up on them. They have a lot of power in front, a great power play so you've got to be really disciplined. We stayed out of the box tonight and didn't give their top players a chance to work on the power play. That was a big key."
Commenting on the stretch of games in the Central Division…
"That's huge. That's probably a big part of our season. We really have a strong division this year. These games, you see they’re hard. There will be no walks in the park. All games will be really tough, especially on the road. These are important points, all four point swings. It's a good start getting the win at home today."
Columbus Blue Jackets Center Manny Malholtra
Commenting on Columbus’s confidence…
"The confidence level is there, the structure to our game is there. Just being able to trust one another and everybody's doing their part, fulfilling their role. Once we have that thing going, we're pumping out the same kind of effort."
Commenting on Pascal Leclaire…
"The numbers kind of speak for themselves. He's played incredible for us. I'm sure if you talk to him, he'll be as humble as possible. He'll pass the credit on to everyone else. He's made some spectacular saves but more importantly, he's made a lot of saves that we expect him to make and that’s big for a goaltender."
Columbus Blue Jackets Defenseman Adam Foote
Commenting on the team maintaining momentum in the third…
"The way the games are played right now, everyone in the first 20 games is trying to make a statement. The second period, we lost the puck a few times in the neutral zone and gave them some momentum. We wanted to try and take that back off them and not sit back and we did a good job."
