Post Game Quotes vs. Nashville - Sept. 27, 2009

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Nashville Predators at Columbus Blue Jackets

Preseason – Sept. 27, 2009

Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on the game...

"We didn't score on all of our chances and they did. Today (we were looking at) chemistry and it was really in and out. We had some great things today and then some poor play."

Commenting on the beginning of the season…
"I'm confident, but we're not ready. Our veteran players have to pick up the pace. They've played better in practice than in the games. This is the most depth organizationally we've ever had and we're going to need it."

Commenting on left wing Nikita Filatov…
"Up until yesterday, I would have said he was going to be a player on the learning curve. He's got a lot to learn and he was going to be in and out while he learns this stuff. He’s got top end skill and we’re going to need it. In the last two games, he's gotten up to speed. He's a dangerous player and he's competing at a much higher level now. He's pushing for work on a full time basis now. If he's willing to compete at the level he is right now, there's no reason he can't push for a spot on opening night."

Commenting on the preseason this year…
"The most positive thing was our depth players made a good account of themselves. The guys that were trying to make the team or make an impression through camp, I thought they really played well. We had a lot of push from the young guys playing defense and I think (the young guys) made it competitive and interesting. When you see their improvement, it makes you feel good."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Right Wing Jakub Voracek

Commenting on outshooting the Predators in the 4-2 loss…

"We didn't play bad, we just lost the game. You know, I mean it's important, but like I said, you get 40 shots on net and your getting scoring chances."

Commenting on the team's expectations heading into the regular season…
"To go far in playoffs obviously, you know. I think we have a lot of great players and we have a young team and last year was a big experience for us. We are going to bring it again this year and we need to go further this year."

Blue Jackets Left Wing R.J. Umberger
Commenting on players battling for roster spots…

"You know, I think we have a lot of guys who go out there and work hard and they try to earn spots and it pushes a lot of guys and I think that's the competitive team spirit and I think our third and fourth line guys really had a great training camp."

Commenting on tonight's game…
"You know we still have some veteran guys here and, you know, I think enough mix. You know the young guys we've got here are great players and they are going to be learning fast and they are going to be the guys you go to down the road here, so it's good to give them as much experience."

Nashville Predators Quotes

Nashville Predators Head Coach Barry Trotz

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I thought we came out quick. We got a quick goal and I thought we got a little bit lucky. We got good goaltending. Dan Ellis was real sharp for us. We responded with timely goals, right after they scored we tied it up we scored, those type of things. Overall, we played a really lean line up but they worked hard and they got it done."

Commenting on special team play…
"Special teams were huge and really we just sort of piecemealed our special teams tonight and it ended up being a pretty good result. We got two big goals for us so it was good."

Nashville Predators Goalie Dan Ellis

Commenting on tonight's game…

"It was a great game. We had a lot of young guys in the lineup, a lot of guys that are really pushing for a roster spot. That really made up a lot of our lineup and a lot of those guys will probably end up in Milwaukee (American Hockey League affiliate of the Predators). It was a last chance for those guys to prove themselves. We played with a lot of grit and a lot of jam and were able to win the game."

Commenting on special teams play…
"I think the power play was really moving the puck around really well and the penalty kill was forcing guys to bad angles, clearing away rebounds and being just down right gritty. It was a great job by both special teams."

Nashville Predators Right Wing Ryan Jones

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I thought we did a good job. Coach told us to focus on attention to detail going into the game, pucks in, pucks out at our blue line and their blue line. I thought we did a good job. We didn't have a ton of turnovers and that's key against a team that creates a lot of its offense off of turnovers."

Commenting on his two goals…
"The first one, it was just a hard forecheck that created a turnover and I just put the puck on net and it found a hole. The one on the power play J.P. (Dumont) and Cal (O'Reilly) did a great job down low and I just used my body to get position out front and I threw it in the slot and found the five-hole."
