Post Game Quotes vs. Minnesota - Sept. 21, 2009

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Minnesota Wild at Columbus Blue Jackets

Preseason – Sept. 21, 2009

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on the game…
"We had way more pace to our game. We were sharper everywhere, with the puck and we protected a lot better. The biggest thing was our pace was up. The other team has to react (when you play like that). From start to finish we had strong pace – it's a good sign."

Commenting on the top line…
"They played with speed and they played with skill. They have to lead the charge (for us). If they are playing a game with no penetration to it and without patience down low, then we have no place to follow. They know they set the tone. They’ve played five periods together and they've played very well together. The last period in Minny they dominated the game and they were very good today."

Commenting on if defenseman John Moore looked like an 18-year-old…
"No. His first two and half periods were really good. The thing he does (so well), he snaps the puck up the ice. John, for a young guy, is very strong."

Commenting on the progress of the team…
"I'm a lot happier on the depth positions. We have guys making a real push for a depth positions. I would still like to see better play by our good players and our veterans. I would like to see that more and more as we move forward. We have depth we are excited about."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes
Blue Jackets Center Derick Brassard
Commenting on playing with Rick Nash and Kristian Huselius
"We found each other on the ice and it's not hard to play with those guys. Tonight was the first game we played with a full line-up. We had three lines and our focus tonight was to push the other team and I think we did a good job."

Blue Jackets Left Wing Rick Nash
Commenting on playing preseason games…
"There's a fine line between going full out and being careful. Obviously we have seen some injuries already during exhibition, but you really have to get your game speed back too, so there really is a fine line there."

Commenting on getting the first win of the preseason…
"The first three games we got chances to win but it didn't happen so we just went out and did
what we needed to do tonight."

Minnesota Wild Quotes
Minnesota Wild Head Coach Todd Richards
Commenting on tonight's game…
"We got to see some guys against NHL caliber hockey. I like the way most of our guys competed tonight. I think there were some guys that had more to offer. They had more experience in the lineup and it showed in the game. We have played and practiced a lot the last few days and I think the legs were starting to get tired."

Minnesota Wild Goalie Josh Harding

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I thought we battled hard. Maybe we were a little bit tired from the trip and playing last night. I thought overall we battled with them. Obviously they made some good plays; you have to give them credit. Especially the Nash line, they made plays and they make you move as a goalie."

Commenting on the goals allowed…
"I think if I could take one back it would be the first one. It hopped up on me and I couldn't get it with my stick. Sometimes you have to give them credit. You’re in the NHL and you are going to play against great players and today they made a lot of good plays."

Minnesota Wild Defenseman Tyler Cuma
Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was a difficult game. I guess we were a little tired from yesterday's game. They had some fresh legs and almost a full lineup and they were buzzing around everywhere in front of the home crowd. For the most part we stuck with it and didn't give up."

Commenting on Rick Nash's goal…
"He is one of the best in the league. He pulled a pretty nice move on me to score that goal. It just goes to show you the type of player that he is. The lineup they had tonight was unbelievable and it was just a little bit too much for us to handle tonight."
