Phoenix Coyotes at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…

"We didn't compete. We wanted the game to be easier than it was… lost too many board battles, front of the net battles and light on the puck. (The effort) disappoints (me). It was definitely a team lost. The one thing that concerns me was we hung that young guy(Mason) out to dry – the breakaways and two-on-ones we gave up, we haven't done that all year. You have to compete to score in this league – if you don't compete you don't score."

Commenting on the play of the team…
"The part that bothered me the most was we couldn’t come to each others help. They weren’t much better than we were in the first period, but we kept wanting the game to be easier. We had the wrong attitude towards the level of competition. We tried to cheat the game and you can’t cheat the game."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Goalie Steve Mason
Commenting on tonight's game…

"It definitely puts everything in to perspective. Obviously I still have a lot of hard work to do in order for myself to stick around here. This is a good wake up call for everybody; we have to come and play our best game every night."

Commenting on the differences between tonight's game and the past three games…
"Just chances, I guess. They got chances and they capitalized; I didn't make the save and they scored."

Blue Jackets Left Wing Rick Nash
Commenting on recovering from the days off…

"We needed those days off. Obviously it took the first period for us to get our legs back, but that's not the excuse that we have tonight. You know we’ve got to be a lot better."

Commenting on relief of getting a goal in tonight's game…
"I'm not worried about that, I've said that all along. I'm going to score goals, there's no question about that. We are more worried about the two points that we could have had tonight."

Blue Jackets Center Derick Brassard

Commenting on tonight's game…

"We got out competed everywhere on the ice, every position, and we let (Steve) Mason down a couple of times. He had to make some solid saves, it could have been worse than 2-0, I think, after the first or second. Like I said before we just lost every battle and we didn't compete to score, it's not they way we played last week."

Commenting on the team's performance…
"It was disappointing to show up like that in front of our home fans for the last game of this home stand. We need to come back and compete and that is how we're going to win some hockey games. We faced some good teams last week and we’re going to face some good teams this week."
