Post-Game Notes

St. Louis Blues (5) at Columbus Blue Jackets (2)

March 29, 2009 – Nationwide Arena (17,095)

Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

Commenting on tonight's game…

"(St. Louis) played well. We were good for a little while. The game is 2-1 going into the third period and we're in good shape and then we turn it over. You have to give St. Louis some credit and they pushed us into areas where we were uncomfortable. We had too many people that did not respond."

Commenting on the Blue Jackets recent stretch of games…
"We'd been going along pretty good and now we have to respond. We have one day to regroup and Nashville won again in Detroit, so we need to reenergize. We’re going to have to earn our way in."

Commenting on playing St. Louis...
"Give them credit. They are playing committed and everybody is on the same page."

Commenting on last night's game and tonight's game against the Blues...

"We did not play well as a team in the two games (against St. Louis). We had some great individual performances, but we did not check well at all. We turned the puck over far too many times in this series."

Commenting on goaltender Steve Mason
"The second goal rattled Mason a little bit. You don't want a goalie going up the middle. That's a smart player (Brad Boyes) that picked that off."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Left Wing Rick Nash

Commenting on rebounding after a tough loss…

"We've put big wins behind us. We're going to have to put big losses behind us. We've got to move on quick. We got a day tomorrow to energize and to go over things that happened tonight. There's no time at this time of season to worry about losses."

Blue Jackets Center Antoine Vermette

Commenting on tonight's game…

"It's one of those nights where they played hard, they had that jump, and they found a way to score goals. We didn't finish our plays, but we gave up too many scoring chances."

Commenting on the team looking tired tonight…
"It's part of that time of year. If you don't feel tired after back-to-back games it's not a good sign, although (St. Louis) was in the same situation. You got to look ahead. That's one game, a disappointing loss, but you got to look ahead, learn from your mistakes, and go forward."

Blue Jackets Center Michael Peca

Commenting on Columbus’ record vs. Central Division opponents…

"We got to improve that. That was something we really wanted to improve on from last year. We played Detroit a lot better than we did last year, but we got more games (against Central Division teams) and we've got to win them. We can't look at our record to date in our division. We just got to go out a game at a time and put in a little bit more effort."

Commenting on the giveaways in tonight's game…
"It seems like we got some tired guys, and when you're tired you make some mental errors, and we're not as strong on the puck as we'd like to be. We got to regroup here and get ready for Tuesday (against Nashville)."

St. Louis Blues Quotes
St. Louis Blues Head Coach Andy Murray

Commenting on winning the two games this weekend…

"A good weekend for us."

Commenting on carrying over from last nights win…

"The St. Louis guys will tell you that there are two words that I do not believe in. Momentum, because I don't know what it is. I just know that every game and every sporting event stands on its own. You have to go out and establish your own credibility no matter what happened in the last one. They are a good team, for us to win two games against them is gratifying."

Commenting on the third period, scoring three goals on six shots…
"I thought we did a good job forechecking. Their defense expected us to come hard. We wanted to put some pressure on them and when you do that you create chances. We kept the puck out of their skilled guys' hands and when they got it I think we crowded them pretty good."

St. Louis Blues Goalie Chris Mason

Commenting on tonight's game…

"We weren't happy with the way the third period went last night. Obviously we had the lead and they came back. I think tonight we were more conscious of what we had to do, and I think in the third we delivered a better performance than last night."

Commenting on moving into a playoff position…
"If we are there at the end of the year we will be happy. Every night it changes and we are trying to take care of business one at a time. We were focused on today. We will enjoy this one a little bit and then worry about our next game."

St. Louis Blues Center Patrik Berglund

Commenting on scoring a goal and collecting two assists…

"It was a big for me and the team obviously, we are battling for a playoff spot and right now we have a good feeling. Tonight we got another two points and we are getting closer and closer."
