Post Game Quotes - Mar. 30 vs. Tampa Bay

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Tampa Bay Lightning at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Interim Head Coach Claude Noel

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I liked the end result, but the first two periods were a clinic in how not to play – for both teams. It was really tough. What really helped us was the third period, they started Lecavalier's line and we matched them up with Pahlsson-Dorsett-Murray and that line had a really good shift. They provided some energy and that got us going."

Commenting on out-shooting Tampa Bay in the third period…
"Some of that was due to some power plays, back-to-back. I was happy that the power play got going. The first two periods we were just too cute crossing the blue line. We just needed to make simple plays. We wanted to raise the intensity level and get some simple (plays) to the net."

Commenting on right wing Rick Nash
"He managed the locker room real well. He kept the guys (spirits) up. He tried to take charge on the ice… and I thought he made huge contributions."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Right Wing Rick Nash

Commenting on tonight's game…

"We got into some penalty trouble, but in between periods we knew we weren't playing well and you know, a lot of guys stood up and said stuff and we knew the third was going to be our best."

Commenting on if playing loose makes it easier to play…
"Yeah, it definitely does. Sometimes maybe too loose, you know guys are skating around too much, not stopping and starting, but here we can tell we are a totally different team now then we were a couple months ago."

Commenting on the differences since Claude Noel took over as interim head coach…
"I think Claude plays a different style. The young guys have a lot more confidence then they did before, and those are two major things."

Blue Jackets Left Wing R.J. Umberger

Commenting on the pass to set up Nash's second goal…

"Well it was blind, but it wasn't in a sense that, I heard him and that is what makes the play and I was just trying to get it over to an area, whether it's on a stick or not, it's in an area where he can get it and put it in the open net."

Commenting on the difference between the first two periods and the third period…
"I think our intensity picked up in the third. We kind of had a little urgency there and we didn’t feel like we played well in the first two. We were a little flat in the dressing room, and we got pumped up and I think our power play made a big difference. We kind of changed our philosophy there and got pucks to the net from all angles. We were getting a little too cute and we were skating into trouble with it and that third period we just put them on net from everywhere."

Commenting on the Lightning penalties in the third period…
"We had to take advantage of it and today it was good to see that. You know, if they are going to be undisciplined you've got to make them pay."

Tampa Bay Lightning Quotes

Tampa Bay Lightning Head Coach Rick Tocchet

Commenting on tonight's game…

"We didn't give them much except the power plays. It was kind of, I shouldn't say, a boring game. I thought we tightened up defensively and didn't give them many chances other than the power plays."

Commenting on amount of penalties in the game…
"It's tough. We had three or four in a row and it takes guys out of the game. Your third and fourth line guys who don't play much, it takes them out of the game. They were undisciplined penalties. That’s not tough hockey sticking people in the face."

Tampa Bay Lightning Center Steven Stamkos

Commenting on tonight's game…

"We were in the box a lot, killing penalties and they scored on the power play. What did we take? Three or four in a row there in the third and that makes it tough to get the legs going. That's what happened tonight."

Tampa Bay Lightning Right Wing Martin St Louis

Commenting on tonight's game…

"We spent half of the third period in the penalty box. I thought we were playing a disciplined game until then. To me we played a good game except for all those penalties. That's the bottom line."

Tampa Bay Lightning Center Vincent Lecavalier

Commenting on tonight's game…

"Penalties not only stop our momentum, but it gives them momentum and obviously they took advantage of it. We had some good chances at the end but didn’t score."
