Dallas Stars (7) at Columbus Blue Jackets (3)

January 31, 2009 – Nationwide Arena

Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…
"I thought our goaltending wasn't very good tonight, but they aren't the total blame. I thought we got beat to way too many pucks in our own zone. They pulled it off the boards on us way too many times. We were really soft in our own zone today. Some performances surprised me. We haven't been soft in our own zone, but we were today. A lot guys didn't battle at the level that they normally battle at."

Commenting on Dallas' key goals…
"We made it 3-2 and we had a lot of momentum and the fourth goal was a real killer. That hurt us. We comeback and make it 5-3 and have momentum again, then the sixth goal was a killer."

Commenting on goaltending …
"(Mason was pulled) both (because of performance and to change the tempo of the game). (Wade) had a tough night. He hasn't played in a long time."

Commenting on the chances…
"We gave up too many easy opportunities. We gave up a 2-on-1 in a four on four situation. We should go in on that one, go to where we went (on that play). We gave up and easy three on two rush. We just ended up trading chances and that's not the way we play. Neither team did a good job in their own end. We didn't compete against the boards and in one on ones."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes
Columbus Goalie Wade Dubielewicz
Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was disappointing. When it comes down to it, I wasn’t good enough tonight."

Commenting on moving forward…
"Had a couple unlucky bounces, but it just wasn't acceptable. Just forget about it, put it behind you and move forward."

Columbus Defensemen Marc Methot
Commenting on tonight's game…
"Complete defensive breakdown, there's no surprise or secret out there, you guys saw it, it was embarrassing on our end."

Commenting on the lack of execution…
"The coaches had us prepared, the game plan was laid out for us, we just didn't execute."

Columbus Defensemen Mike Commodore
Commenting on the start of the game…
"They really jumped on us at the beginning and had a couple bad bounces, but regardless, it was just too late."

Commenting on the loss…
"It wasn't more of a let down than it normally is to get scored on that much, but it is disappointing to lose."

Columbus Left Wing Kristian Huselius
Commenting on tonight's game…
"Yea that's the way it is, when they keep scoring all the time, you lose energy."

Commenting on the start…
"We didn't move our legs in the first, we were standing still, waiting for them to see what was going to happen and they took the game to us, and overwhelmed us."

Dallas Stars Coach Quotes
Dallas Stars Head Coach Dave Tippett
Commenting on tonight's game…
"We were very opportunistic early; we had an early lead, and the game was probably played even. But we were opportunistic, and then they pushed back, and (James) Neal's goal to push (the lead) to four was a huge goal. And any time after that, they had any kind of push, we were able to rebuff it and get one back on the board and push the game along."

Commenting on maintaining the early lead…
"We're up 3-0; we probably don't deserve to be up 3-0. They're (ticked) off that we're up 3-0, so they're pushing hard, and we're going 'Oh, we better be careful here.' We did a pretty good job on that 5-on-3 and then they got a deflection off a stick, but Neal came back. They pushed pretty hard the first 10 minutes of the second period, and then once Neal scored we pushed it right the other way. I thought that dictated the game, the second 10 minutes of the second period."

Dallas Stars Player Quotes
Dallas Stars Goaltender Marty Turco
Commenting on tonight's game…
"Even when they kept scoring, you didn't see too much panic in our game. They're a tough team to play against when they can get it in the zone. They get you running around a little bit. Other than that first 10 minutes of the second period, I felt like we were in control for most of it, and that's the way we like it."

Dallas Stars Left Wing James Neal
Commenting on his second goal…
"We're starting to play good and put a pretty good line together here. Good play by those two guys and there was a rebound in front and I managed to knock one in."

Commenting on goaltender Marty Turco…
"(Marty) Turco comes up with save after save, and that's what you need if you're going to win. He's putting some real solid games together. We're responding and playing some good hockey, and it's a good feeling around here. It’s fun and guys are playing well."
