Post Game Quotes - Jan. 28 vs. Los Angeles

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Los Angeles Kings at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…

"I'm surprised at the way we played for the last 40 minutes. I was surprised by the way we didn't respond. (L.A.) didn't play very well at the start, but they scored on their second or third shot (on goal). I don't think it was L.A. They picked it up on the checking side, but we got discouraged and lost our intensity."

Commenting on defenseman Anton Stralman being out of the lineup…
"We missed Stralman on the early on the power play, a lot."

Commenting on the beginning of the game…
"The first 12 minutes was the best we've played in a long time. Everybody was going and we were doing the things we needed to do. We didn't stay with it."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Defenseman Marc Methot

Commenting on returning to the lineup…

"As a player, especially in this game, you want to be part of the team and you want to play. It's just real unfortunate and you know were really starting to get sick of losing all these games."

Commenting on tonight's game…
"You know once they pushed, they got a goal. They got a couple breaks and it seemed like we just kind of gave up and lost all of our steam and you know, I think that was really obvious in the way we played in the second and third periods."

Commenting on the loss…
"I think, like I said, our intensity went way down after that first goal they scored and it really showed in our body language on the bench and how we were playing on the ice and you know we can't have that, especially at this time in the season."

Blue Jackets Left Wing R.J. Umberger

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I don't know if we think too much. We wanted to keep doing what we were doing, but you know, we give them credit, too. They turned their game, they pushed us, they responded and when they scored they got a lot of momentum and light from it so it’s our job to bounce back and grab the momentum again so we didn’t do that and now we lose another game."

Commenting on the start…
"You know they hung in there the first 10 minutes and just absorbed our push. Then they got a goal and they pushed us and got the momentum and we just let them do it. We didn't respond. We need to grab the game after that."

Los Angeles Kings Quotes

Los Angeles Kings Head Coach Terry Murray

Commenting on tonight's game…

"Columbus came out and played well. I don't know if we stated poorly. I would give them a lot of credit. They came out with a big push and Jonathan Quick was the reason why we were still at 0-0 after a couple of their power plays. Sometimes what you need from your goaltender on the road is to play very intense. We got organized after that and settled it down. The second goal was very big for us, obviously (Anze) Kopitar scoring helped us to settle down even a little more and helps you to play the game the way you know how."

Commenting on defenseman Matt Greene's goal…
"It was a great play by (Alexander) Frolov. He does his thing down deep in the offensive zone, he holds onto it and he finds people. It's a matter of getting pucks to the net sometimes. That's what we keep telling our guys and good things can happen."

Los Angeles Kings Center Anze Kopitar

Commenting on his 100th and 101st career NHL goals…

"It's pretty special. You see the guys reaching 300, 400, 500 goals, all those big guns. I think its pretty nice to reach that milestone and I am ready to score a couple more now."

Commenting on the start of the game…
"We seem to play really good on the road. I thought the first 10 minutes we were flat footed and "Quickie" (Jonathan Quick) stood tall for us and made some crucial saves."
