Post Game Quotes - Jan. 26 vs. Nashville

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Nashville Predators at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

Commenting on tonight's game…

"This happens so much against that team, sometimes I think you expect bad things to happen. Something bad has happened to us a lot, but it didn't this time, so it's a good sign. We needed to get into the 50's and join the crowd. We had a real slow start and we just got better and better. After their first goal, we got tight, but I thought we hung in there today."

Commenting on the play of goalie Steve Mason
"First off, our goalie was the best player on the ice and we needed him today, and he was good. He was very good tonight. He'll get the start Thursday (against Los Angeles). He can win games, like tonight, by himself."

Commenting on the play of center Derick Brassard
"I think the difference in Derick's game is he's showing that he's comfortable being uncomfortable on the ice."

Commenting on the special teams play…
"The power play goal was great; we spread them out and it was a great goal."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Center Derick Brassard

Commenting on tonight's win…

"Yeah, it was a huge win for us. We always play a hard game against them and we wanted to start the (next) 10 games (before the Olympic break) tonight. We set our goal and it's going to be a hard way until the break and we want more wins and I think we can."

Commenting on the upcoming stretch of home games…
"We set our goal before the break and our goal is to make the playoffs for sure. And all the wins are going to be huge for us. And we play seven games at home, I think, so it's going to be huge."

Blue Jackets Left Wing Rick Nash

Commenting on tonight’s game…

"It was tight early, you know, it didn't seem like there was much room out there, but both teams know each other so well things started to open up after the second and into the third, you know, and we got more chances."

Commenting on scoring the first goal…
"It was one of our keys before the game to score the first goal and you know we did and it was a positive coming in (to the first intermission) 0-0. We used to give that goal up early but it was one of our keys and we achieved it."

Nashville Predators Quotes

Nashville Predators Head Coach Barry Trotz

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I thought both teams played a real solid game. I thought they played well, we played well. They capitalized on one turnover in the (second) and it's a 1-0 game. Both teams are pushing and both teams are playing well defensively. It's not as wide open. Obviously when they got the second and third goals, I thought the second goal, that one hurt. When it's 1-0, the two goal lead is really big and they scored and they scored again on the next shift. To me if we kept it at two, we had a chance. We still had a chance at the end. We had the puck on J.P.'s (Dumont) stick ands didn't get much on it. Right now we are playing well, but not well enough to win."

Nashville Predators Left Wing Steve Sullivan
Commenting on tonight's game…

"I thought we were doing a good job minimizing their shots. They got the one goal up and all of a sudden it was three. I don't think we changed our game much we just kept pressing. Once they got the lead, I think they tightened up a little bit and tried to play a little more defensively and gave us a little more speed and more offense. It looked like we were pressing harder, but I think they were just trying to protect the lead."

Commenting on four-game losing streak…
"Something has to be done. Four in a row. We are starting to feel the heat now from behind us in the standings. We are not as comfortable now as we were a week ago. We have to find a way to get some wins."
