Post Game Quotes - Jan. 12 vs. Nashville

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Nashville Predators at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

Commenting on the game …
"We poured a lot into the third period to try and get the win. We could have got frustrated, but we didn't – we knew we just had to dump the puck and go get it because they were lining up four guys. To do what we did in the third period was impressive."

Commenting on finally beating to Nasvhille …
"In the games against Nashville, we've always been the first team to crack. We've cracked early, whether it was getting anxious in physical areas or whatever. We stayed with it and that's what I was happiest about."

Commenting on Nikolai Zherdev …
"We needed someone to step up and he stepped up yesterday and did it again today. Right now, this is a lot of games in a row where he's stepped up and made good account of himself when we've needed him the most. Your best players have to be your best players at this time of the year, especially with so much at stake for everybody."

Commenting on Pascal Leclaire …
"I think Pazzy gave us a chance (to win). He played better tonight than he did yesterday and we really needed him in the third period and overtime. He gives us a chance to win every night and that's what you want."

Visiting Head Coach Quotes

Nashville Predators Head Coach Barry Trotz

Commenting on losing to Columbus for the first time in 13 games…
"It's just math. The more times you play sooner or later (it’s going to happen). Both teams played really well, played a real solid game, didn't give them much. They didn't have a lot of opportunities tonight. We had one turnover and they capitalized on it."

Commenting on the shootout…
"You get to a shootout and it's so important to be able to get points there. We just needed to bury one more chance tonight. I thought we had some real good chances that we weren't able to capitalize on."

Commenting on picking up only one point tonight…
"You get a point and just have to go forward. You get a point and hopefully you can gain on someone. Obviously we wanted to gain on Columbus and we didn't, they gained on us. That could be a big point, could be a deciding factor, we’ll see how that goes."

Player Quotes

Columbus Blue Jackets Defenseman Rostislav Klesla

Commenting on his tying goal…
"He (Nikolai Zherdev) made a good forecheck, made a good read on the defenseman. I was kind of following up the play, hoping the puck would get past. I shot it low. I don't think he (Nashville goaltender Chris Mason) saw it so it was good to even up the game."

Commenting on tonight's game…
"They were not really giving us a lot of space. They were kind of holding the red line, playing a territorial game so we really had to earn whatever we got. We were staying patient."

Columbus Blue Jackets Goaltender Pascal Leclaire

Commenting on tonight’s game…
"It's a pretty good feeling. It doesn't really matter who it was, we need those points right now. We have a good thing going on at home right now, we're playing well. The win is the most important, it doesn't matter who we beat."

Commenting on his save on J.P. Dumont in the shootout…
"I played with him all summer. We're from the same place. All summer he kind of deked me so I was expecting that, trying to be patient. When he shot, I was right there. You kind of just go with the flow in the shootout."

Columbus Blue Jackets Center Dan Fritsche

Commenting on a four-point weekend…
"It's huge. It's what we wanted to do, we wanted to come out and get four points. I think the team's playing great; we had a great two games. We played just like we wanted to. We've got one more home game here on Tuesday and we need that win before we hit the road to feel good about ourselves."

Commenting on playing Nashville on the second night of a back-to-back…
"It's hard enough playing Nashville on a good day's rest. They're one of the hardest working teams in the league. They came in here with a lot of rest, they hadn't played in a few days and they were ready to go. Us playing back-to-back, we had some tired guys but everyone sucked it up. We knew we had to give everything we had because we knew how big these four points were. Even going into the shootout, we said we needed these points. The guys that went, they had a lot on their backs and they came through for us."

Commenting on goaltender Pascal Leclaire…
"He was Pazzy. Night in, night out, he gives us a chance to win hockey games. It was another stellar performance by him tonight. He’s one of the best goalies in the league."
