Post Game Quotes - Jan. 11 vs. St. Louis

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

St. Louis Blues at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

Commenting on the game …
"It was crazy. We had so many odd man rushes in the first period and your sitting down 1-0, then you get up 3-1 and look like you are controlling the game, then we get too many men on the ice. The game really changed momentum about five times."

"For what happened in St. Louis, to come back with an effort like this was very impressive. This is a nice step to make a move right now."

Commenting on Fritsche, Malhotra, Chimera line …
"(Chimera not scoring) was really weighing on him. That line was effective again and hopefully they can back it up with a really good performance tomorrow."

Commenting on penalty killing …
"We gave up a goal tonight, but our penalty killing was outstanding. For the way we did things, I was very impressed."

Commenting on Zherdev's goal …
"He was ok at the start and really good at the end. We got a lot of good performances from people we needed to get them from if we were going to move ahead here, so it was good."

Player Quotes

Columbus Blue Jackets Defenseman Adam Foote

Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was important for us to make sure that we came out strong. They really played well in their system, played with energy and were patient. We knew we really had to really stick to our game plan because they would be disciplined with theirs."

Commenting on his three assists…
"Lucky. I didn't do anything special."

Columbus Blue Jackets Goaltender Pascal Leclaire

Commenting on his success against St. Louis…
"I think every time I play them, my team is really solid in front of me. Tonight was a huge effort. After what happened earlier this week in St. Louis, we were pretty sour about it and the guys came out pretty hard. We played a great hockey game tonight."

Commenting on the penalty kill…
"Our kill's been good all year, it's won a lot of hockey games for us. Tonight was a big turnaround, those two big kills."

Columbus Blue Jackets Center Michael Peca

Commenting on the importance of winning in regulation…
"Anytime you play, not just divisional teams, but teams that are in your conference ahead of you in the standings and maybe teams that are just behind us, it's so important to try and win the game in regulation. Every point is so valuable not just to gain for yourself but so valuable to not give up on the pother side of it. For us to go out there and get two points is really important but I think the way we responded in the third, when they got that quick goal in the third, we hung in there. We played well. We knew were dominating the game all night long and we knew just had to keep getting pucks at the net."

Commenting on killing five-on-threes…
"We have guys that love to be out there in that situation and I think that helps. Myself, Novotny, Nash, our defense, Rusty Klesla and Footer, they do an outstanding job down low in that circumstance."

Commenting on playing through injuries…
"We had a big talk about this about a week or so ago that if we make a decision as individuals to get ourselves dressed in the lineup, then injuries aren't an excuse for us. We expect everybody that's in the lineup to play at the top of their level. And he played great for us. We felt very comfortable together on a line all night, we created chances all night and it was good to see a couple go to the back of the net."

Columbus Blue Jackets Center Derick Brassard

Commenting on his NHL debut…
"I was pretty nervous when I started the game but everything went well. I didn't play a lot in the third period but when our line played, we played pretty well. We didn't get scored on. I'm happy. First game, first win."

Commenting on regaining strength after his jaw injury…
"I played five games (in the AHL) after my surgery. I'm feeling pretty good today. I was excited so I had lots of energy."
