Post-Game Quotes

Anaheim Ducks (5) at Columbus Blue Jackets (2)
February 21, 2009 – Nationwide Arena

Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…
"We weren't near as competitive as we'd like to be. I didn’t like our preparation all day today. We tried a lot of things get it cranked up. I didn't like our energy. It seemed too casual. We had our moments but we were out played. We took to slow to get into the game. We didn't match their intensity. They were hungry and they fed off of the momentum of the third period in Detroit. They answered the bell today."

Commenting on goaltender Steve Mason...
"Mason would probably like to have a couple of them back, but he's saved our bacon more than anybody could imagine (this season)."

Commenting on the power play…
"It was the first half of the game we needed (to score on the power play). We made it a game at 2-1 and the third goal was a killer, bad change and we got beat one-on-one. We've shown flashes, but… we weren't sharp at all. I know we scored two goals but we weren’t sharp."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes
Blue Jackets Right Wing Derek Dorsett
Commenting playing the club's sixth game in nine days…
"It's really tough but it's no excuse, we just have to make sure we’re prepared every game to play. We had the day off yesterday, so there's no excuse for our energy level and we should have been ready to go tonight."

Commenting on moving on…
"Anaheim is a big physical team, but we have a lot of guys out here that can hang with them. It sucks to give up two points to them but we have to put this one behind us within the next couple days and get ready for our trip out west."

Blue Jackets Goaltender Steve Mason
Commenting on the club playing its sixth game in nine days…
"We can't use that as an excuse, every team in this league has the same kind of schedule. We have to take it for what it is and get ready for the next game. It wasn't a very good game at all, pretty brutal."

Commenting on moving on…
"Obviously its rough, we would have liked to win especially against a conference rival, but we have to just put this one behind us and move on. It was a real physical game, the guys were coming hard at the net and I took a few hits but it's still no excuse."

Blue Jackets Defenseman Mike Commodore
Commenting on playing six games in nine nights…
"Yeah we had a day off yesterday to gain some energy. I don't want to speak for everybody but my legs were tired out there tonight. We've played a lot of games this week but it's our job as a professional athlete to come prepared to play every night."

Commenting tonight's game…
"The game wasn't really over. We were terrible in the first, but I think we did a good job threatening in the second, but they got some more momentum but I thought we had a couple good chances on the power plays but in the end it just wasn't enough."

Anaheim Ducks Quotes
Anaheim Ducks Head Coach Randy Carlyle
Commenting on the win…
"We're happy with the win, we’ll take it and move forward. Hopefully it's a building block for our hockey club because we have a very important hockey game coming up in Buffalo and now our preparation starts for that."

Commenting on getting three goals on five shots in the second and third periods…
"Sometimes that's how the game goes. When the other team pressures you, they started to pinch their defense and get five guys involved, that's when you get opportunities."

Anaheim Ducks Right Wing Corey Perry
Commenting on tonight's game…
"We skated and fore-checked. We were physical, we got back to our old style, and it worked out for us."

Commenting on the playoff chase…
"We know what's ahead of us and who's ahead of us in the standings and we are chasing some teams that we play. You got to have the two points every night."

Anaheim Ducks Defenseman Scott Niedermayer
Commenting on getting the two points…
"They are all big. We are on the road facing some tough opponents in the next 10 days here."
