Post Game Quotes - April 6 vs. St. Louis

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

St. Louis Blues at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

Commenting on the game …
"We put in – post all-star break - some of our best efforts … the highest level of competition we've put in all year. I know a dozen games, like the one tonight. We paid for the few mistakes we made."

Commenting on the future…
"We've entered a new phase and the phase is - win now. That's a whole different mind set, completely different than what we've had here."

"The player is going to (come in and) help us win or not. That's the whole focus."

Commenting on the season…
"When Pazzy went out that was disappointing, because I really felt he could win games for us outright."

"As a coach, all you want is effort. Night after night, this team poured its heart out, game after game. We weren't good enough. We didn't have the competitive depth to sustain."

Visiting Head Coach Quotes

St. Louis Blues Head Coach Andy Murray

Commenting on Keith Tkachuck's 500th goal…
"I asked him how many (goals) he (Tkachuck) has had shorthanded empty nets and he couldn't remember one. That was exciting watching that puck go down the ice into the net. 500 goals is something special."

Commenting on finishing the season on a high note…
"We won the last game. We won the series against Columbus. That's what we had to play for today. We got the job done today; we didn't get the job done for the year."

Commenting on the play of goaltender Hannu Toivonen…
"He had some good performances early in the year, but he was obviously very good today."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Columbus Blue Jackets Left Wing Rick Nash

Commenting on tonight's game…
"We gave it our all. We couldn't finish. I thought we outplayed them. We had more shots but it's just kind of the story, we couldn't score big goals when we needed it."

Commenting on the 2007-08 season…
"Obviously, we wanted to have a better season. I don't think people expected us to do what we did. We've got to move on, look at it as a positive and start worrying about next year. I think individually as players, we have a lot of work to do, a lot of areas to get better."

Columbus Blue Jackets Center Manny Malhotra

Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was a really good start. For the most part, we played really well throughout the game. We outchance teams, we outshoot teams but we just weren't able to score. That was the only difference. We got out opportunities, we just didn’t capitalize."

Commenting on the need for the Jackets to be more consistent…
"I don't think that (knowing how to win games) has ever really been the problem. We’ve known that for a while. We have our systems in place and they work well when executed. The main thing is consistency. We went through hot and cold streaks where our power play was firing and the penalty kill was throwing 'O's out there and we were scoring five-on-five, dominating. Then we went through cold streaks where we couldn’t find the net for our lives. It's just a lot of inconsistency that needs to be cleaned up."

Columbus Blue Jackets Center Michael Peca

Commenting on tonight's game…
"We just couldn't get the breaks to go our way. It seemed to be the case down the stretch of the season where even games that we probably deserved to win, we just weren't getting the breaks and seemed to have ones go against us. That's the way it goes. We competed real hard, we never gave up. We had half our team up from Syracuse and we continued to battle and push each other. Unfortunately, we just couldn't win to put more smiles on the (fans') faces."
