Post Game Quotes and Numbers - Mar. 27

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

183:48 - The amount of time between goals scored by Scottie Upshall (Mar. 15 vs. Boston) and Umberger (tonight) – the last two goals scored by the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. It was the club's longest home-ice scoring drought this season and was snapped with Umberger’s goal in the third period tonight.

24 - The goal total for R.J. Umberger this season, one of the Blue Jackets' on and off-ice leaders. He scored again tonight, giving him three goals in the past three games – that includes a two-goal effort in Colorado against the Avalanche. His 54 points this year are one shy of a career-best that he set last season.

8 - The number of occasions this season in which the Blue Jackets have fired at least 40 shots on goal in a game. They did so tonight, with 40 on the number. Vancouver goaltender Cory Schneider, starting in the stead of Roberto Luongo, made 39 saves and many of high importance in the Canucks' 4-1 victory. Columbus is now 3-5-0 in games when it records 40+ shots.

25:48 - Fedor Tyutin's TOI record tonight, and it’s starting to feel like a broken record. He is out there in every key situation for head coach Scott Arniel and the Blue Jackets, including power plays, penalty kills and five-on-five. He has tallied 6-15-21 in 48 games since being a healthy scratch (Dec. 6-9) and has played 20-plus minutes in 48 of the past 49 games.

Post-Game Quotes

Blue Jackets Head Coach Scott Arniel
Commenting on tonight's game…

"Going against the No. 1 team in the league, we outplayed them by a landslide – we had 19 scoring chances and they had nine. (Vancouver) scored on four of theirs and we scored on one of ours. We did everything possible to generate offense. We didn't (score enough) and it's in our heads and it's been going on for a few games now. The same pucks aren't going in like they were earlier (in the season)."

Commenting on the power play chances…
"We got six chances on our power play. Our power play is a big reason why we haven't had the same success we had earlier in January and February. We talked about shooting pucks. We aren't finding a way to score goals (on the power play)."

Blue Jackets Left Wing R.J. Umberger
Commenting on tonight's game…

"We just couldn't score, couldn't bury it. We peppered them with shots from everywhere; we had a lot of rebounds. It's frustrating when you get those chances and don't score."

Blue Jackets Left Wing Rick Nash
Commenting on tonight's game…

"It was a tough one tonight. The guys played a great game and worked hard, we just couldn't finish."

Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Alain Vigneault
Commenting on tonight's game…

"We got another great goaltender (Cory Schneider) performance, his 20th of the year. Teams are obviously getting themselves prepared for us. I thought Columbus, tonight, played real strong. At the end of the night, our goaltender was better than their goaltender and we won the game."
