Post Game Quotes and Numbers - Apr. 1 vs. Chicago

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

17:02 - The amount of time on ice for Tomas Kubalik in only his second NHL game. Although he did not get a point tonight, he played 4:43 on the power play and was a factor. He played 22 shifts, five hits and two shots on goal, not a bad start for the 20-year-old Czech Rebuplic native.

1 - The first goal of your career is always a memorable one and Maksim Mayorov despite the shootout loss will not forget his first period tip past Chicago's Corey Crawford. Mayorov built off the shootout winner he scored against Florida last Tuesday vs. Florida.

13 - The number of overtime and shootout losses for the Columbs Blue Jackets. The most by any team in the NHL, one more than the Atlanta Thrashers and Florida Panthers. The Jackets have gone 5-8 in shootouts and have lost 5 other games in overtime.

Post-Game Quotes

Blue Jackets Head Coach Scott Arniel
Commenting on tonight's game…

"Certainly last night's game took a lot of energy out of us… we knew (Chicago) would come out hard and they did just that. Around the 10-minute mark it looked like we got our legs under us and that was a huge goal by Max (Maksim Mayorov) to get us some life and get the building going. We spent an awful lot of time in their end of the rink (in the second part of the first period) and I thought we swung the momentum in our favor."

Commenting on being in so many shootouts throughout the season…
"It tells you we're close. We've made a decision as a league that we’re going to entertain at the end of the night and we're not going to go home with a tie game. We'll work on the shootout part… but we don't back off in overtime. These guys learn how to play in pressure packed situations. It's unfortunate we've lost so many shootout games, but we've done a great job of learning how to play under pressure."

Blue Jackets Center Derick Brassard

Commenting on tonight's game…

"It was a pretty intense game. We know they are a good team and they needed two points for the playoffs. I thought our team showed some character, we played hard and came out short at the end, but I think it was a good game by our team."

Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach Joel Quenneville

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I thought we had a decent third period. We had a couple of great chances there before the shootout with (Troy) Brouwer and (Marian) Hossa. We made a couple of big saves as well. I wasn't happy with all of the penalties in the second period. We got out of that period fortunate to be even. I will take any win right now. When you are down late in the game it turns out to be a huge win for us."
